So I got myself a nice copy of Windows 7 Professional for the pricely sum of £35!

I went to install it today, hoping to do an upgrade from Vista.

"Computer says no".

Hey, it looks like you have Windows Vista Home installed! You're trying to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional! No can do, pal! Looks like you're going to have to wipe the slate clean and start all over again! Gutted! :D

I had a nightmare trying to install Office again after I couldn't re-download the setup file because I'd left college, and I couldn't download it off their website, and so I had to download a pirate version of the setup file and use my legitimate product key! Nightmare!

so where did you get win7pro for that price then ?? :)

its a new kernel thing, tbh I always do clean installs as they're just so nice

its a student thing office is cheap too
 
Clean install is the best way. Back up any important info like passwords, email inboxes and instructions for your net provider etc. When you go to install Win7 choose to wipe the hard drive and you'll end up with a nice fast clean machine.
 
Apart from backing everything up and reinstalling everything, it was a totally painless install!

Does anyone know anything about removing all the previous windows information to free up some space on my hdd?

thats why you formatted the disk, so it was a completely blank space, then put back just what you wanted like docs and music......
right?

If you're talking about the windows.old folder then if there's nothing that you've forgotten to back up in there then just delete it.

i always thought that you could only get that sort of bargain if you had an .ac.uk e-mail address , not so , as a guardian of a secondary school pupil i am good to go , got a copy on the way :clap:
