just sold a lens on e.bay and tbh its becoming a nightmare , they wouldn't let me have the buyers address unless I bought a pre-paid label . and as I need to send it RMSD I didn't use it , then ive just spent half a hour trying and finally achieving to add the correct tracking number which if you don't means you don't get paid . I honestly think there employing idiots who look for a way to rip off more and more people every day .. blood pressure must be through the roof now

I bought a Canon 300 2.8 on ebay recently, tracking information was uploaded and working during delivery, but when recieved it didn't update the ebay tracking. Took about 3 weeks, messages to ebay, feedback left, etc before Ebay released the money to the seller! Put me right off trying to sell anything on there myself these days. They're comlpetely on the side of buyers, which if you get buyers out to get free items completely does over genuine sellers!

You have to preselect correct delivery service when starting a listing.

But yeah, it is just barely adequate now and I feel a lot more inclined to sell anywhere else including the dreaded facebook

Never have and never will sell anything on ebay. Bought plenty but sell no, no, no for the reasons given.

Had a nightmare day today , sold a camera ,posted by RMSD . Tracking stated out for delivery ,still showing the same at 2pm , messaged the buyer yep it’s been delivered .. eventually it showed as delivered around 3pm .. at least I’ll get paid .. but this new system places us in the hands of the delivery company doing there job properly and its human to make mistakes.
And then had a used camera delivered from a well known company ,turned out to be faulty so a quick phone call and it’s on its way back …had a right bad day of it

I last week bought a camera on there, it was nothing like described so I had to do a return today, at cost  I requested a not as described thingy as the shutter speeds were sticky & it was a bit mouldy under the leather case - I had a reply that it must have happened in transit.

So on Friday night, straight after the return request as above, I bought a better one. Better model & better condition & fully serviced - obviously it cost more, but I should have just done that in the first place instead of looking at actual auctions of old crap......

I do tend to just use eBay for more 'but it now' new stuff tbh which is 99% from a business.

If RMSD delivered after1pm it’s pretty easy to claim online for full refund of postage

I sold something a few years ago now, the first thing I'd sold for a long time; previously to that, I had sold thousands of pounds worth of stuff there. Because I hadn't sold for some time, they kept hold of my money and were going to retain it for nearly three weeks as 'buyer protection'--also, I had to use my bank account rather than Paypal. I phoned them and asked them where my money was and got this 'trustworthy seller' thing. I told them I wanted my money and they gave it to me. When asked if I'd get my money straight away next time, the guy said probably not and that because he didn't know how the algorithm worked, he didn't know how long the system would retain it until I'd built up a reputation. I said I'd sold a lot of stuff and he said that because it was such a long time ago, I'd have to build up a history again.

It was the last thing I ever sold on eBay. I buy stuff but I'll not sell ever again.

TBH, I so hate dealing with people, I tend to give stuff to charity shops rather than go through a load of stupid questions and tyre-kickers wasting my time.

DITTO.....

and I'll NEVER EVER buy from a seller who lists ''Delivery by other Courier'' -- as usually they use Evri who are total rubbish.!!

I'm still waiting for a n Evri parcel they said 'attempted delivery ' on 16/05/2025

Just shows the regional differences with Evri. Our local lads are excellent tbh. Never had an issue with them here (Scotland). My wife makes fascinators and there's stuff arriving Evri day (god I'm good lol) and she's never had an issue either.

That sounds reasonable to me.

I too sold a lot through Ebay, but gave up when it was over-run by people who were untrustworthy. Now Ebay has begun to accept some of its responsibilities towards both sides. The rules they are now applying are, I imagine, intended to make buyers more confident that sellers won't grab their money and disappear.

It's unfortunate but long distance trading has always a little more difficult than going into a shop...

:)well I guess South Lanarkshire is ''off-the-grid''.............:exit:

still no delivery or contact since 16th

Have sold a few bits of late including a couple of camera related items at 800 each. No issues - paid for the postage so all I needed to do was show the code at PO, paid out a few days later. The OP should have selected the correct postage method.

They now try to direct you to easy postage ( I.e evri) which means you buy the postage through e.bay , you can with difficulty choose Royal Mail . Personally I like a modicum of control over things I sell and post .but everyone has there own preferences. I’m finding rm tracked 24/48 to be quiet good recently ..
But having to wait on the parcel getting delivered to be paid is a pain in the backside, as you can’t control when somebody is home to accept the parcel

I haven't found it hard to choose RM, including sales made in the last weeks (ie since the recent changes). I find ebay incredibly well organised and it tends to run like clockwork whether buying or selling.

Buyers you have to take on trust, and maybe I've been lucky up to now but from what communications I've had they tend to seem like people you'd be happy to live next door to. Sellers & their items - well you do your due diligence, don't you?

There is of course no such thing as a risk-free life ...

Not really; when I say I sold a lot, I mean a LOT, probably about ten or fifteen grand over the years. I had 100% positive feedback and the man I spoke to could see that, he admitted it. Did I suddenly become a money-grabbing criminal? I mean, have I become a female Donald Trump in the intervening years? I'd like to have asked for the benefit of the doubt, but to me, there was no doubt; I was an honest seller on eBay, but suddenly, I'm not. Well, it's their loss. I haven't sold anything since that time and never will again; my integrity has been questioned and that's a red line for me.

That sounds similar to me, thanks to various far eastern buyers with a "yen" for German cameras and equipment, ;)

I would expect to receive the same treatment as yourself, if I suddenly started selling again, following ten years of inactivity. Looking at it from Ebay's viewpoint, the sudden reactivation of a dormant account has to be a matter for concern.

Banks and building societies regard such "resurrection" of dormant accounts with increasing care and Ebay is in some respects similar to a Bank, having a financial interest in preventing fraudulent transactions that could come back to bite them.

...my integrity has been questioned and that's a red line for me.
Seen from their end of the telescope, they are also trying to protect their reputation.

Probably the best thing for them I suppose. People like me no longer use it to sell, so only businesses will sell on it now; but then perhaps that's really what they want. Dealing with someone who flogs the odd thing now and again is fraught with problems of non-payment, undelivered goods etc. so I guess they want solid sellers. It's a shame it all went that way as it used to be a good way of selling your stuff without the hassle of people coming round and not actually buying your offering.

I asked for an Ebay item to be delivered to a Parcelshop yesterday because I would be out all day.
The tracking said it was signed for and delivered at my address the same time I was 30 miles away at my daughters house.
Filed a claim now, no idea where it went or who signed for it, what a right shower.

I had a similar experience last year and now eBay have changed their policy on payment and delivery always pushing Evri (absolutely shocking experience here) I won't ever sell on there again

The baying hounds of negativity - oh ye victims of injustice! Oh for a perfect world (sigh).

I guess also the advent of a number of other apps and sites for selling used stuff has created sort of niche specialist areas - vinted for example for clothes. I rarely ever venture onto ebay nowadays even for buying, except for batteries and things that I know will come from China and be cheap and which I can accept.

Evri seems a bit mixed here. I've not had any issues with them, but a friend who lives just 3 miles away has had lots of problems.
Back in the day a company called City Link was the one to beat for bad service, I think they "lost" about 50% of the parcels my brothers company sent with them. We called them something else, it sounded a lot like city link, but started with an S.
He went through all the courier firms, none were much good then.
To be fair I'm not had much trouble buying off Ebay, but I don't buy much expensive stuff off there except from proper companies. I dont sell on there. Too risky.

This is the most recent tracking for my missing Ebay/Evri parcel.
The original case was found in the sellers favour because tracking showed it was delivered.
On appeal they issued me a refund saying they now believed it was stolen after delivery.
Where it is or who has it remains a mystery, but the one certain thing is that person is not me

Well after the initial fuss it’s all gone smoothly, I have found out how to select RM as my delivery service , sold a few items been paid . I still prefer the old way but I suppose they had to tidy up there image a bit

Evri and DHL Parcel UK are merging.

I sold something on Ebay. Recipeint lodges a did not receive appeal. I provided the tracking number and a photograph of where the postman left it and Ebay found in my favour! Being the seller, I was somewhat surprised...
