Hi,

Does anyone use a Blackrapid style strap on a Sigma 70-200 2.8 ?

I use it on a 150-500 without any thought or problem, but just got a 70-200 and the tripod mount on the lens is a different design in that is is hinged and the locking knob seems to be a quarter turn thread and then pull to release the lens from the hinged mount. I presume it's still as safe/secure but just a niggling doubt in my mind.

Thanks

Garry

I don't use it on my 70-200 but I do use it on my Sigma 120-300mm non-DG version which uses the same foot and weighs a lot more.

So far I've had no problems with it at all, it works well, feels solid and is very comfortable. Just make sure you check the tightness of the fastner in the foot every now and then, mine's worked slightly loose a couple of times.

Use it on my 70-200 no problems.

Thanks both for the quick replies.

Was used to the full collar on the 150-500 so guess I was just slightly paranoid seeing a hinged collar that seemed comparatively easy to release.

Quick hijack. I use a BR strap with a Nikon 70-200. Is it best to use the lens foot to attach it? I've attached my strap to the camera, is this putting to much strain on the lens mount?

I hired a Nikon 70-200 2.8 and attached my BR strap to the tripod collar not the camera body, however as I was hand holding it all day i did remove the detachable tripod foot and mounted the strap straight into the lens collar.
Hope that makes sense.

I would say it will put too much stress on the lens mount if you carry all the weight on the camera. I would always use the lens mount if the lens is big and heavy enough to have one in the first place.

Already been replied too but yes I use my 70-200 Sigma OS with a black rapid attached to the tripod foot.

likewise i used to lug my 120-300 around by the carry handle/tripod mount.

itll be fine just make sure its done up :D

Not sure about the strain but it musn't balance very well when you carry it ? I attach mine to the tripod foot on the 70-200....works just fine.

Yep, I use this combo with absolutely no problems whatsoever.

To be honest it is comfy. The body and lens hang about waist high and I can hold the camera loosely in my right hand (as I'm paranoid about it falling off). Will try the tripod mount I think.

Damn, I just posted about the BR RS-7 in the 5D3 thread.

Overall is this a good product?

Can't fault mine. Very comfortable and a huge improvement on a neck strap. Especially with larger, heavier lenses.

why don't put it on your camera body?? i'm sure it can takes more than 2KG...

I do at the moment. My worry was that I was putting too much stress on the lens mount by having the lens hanging off of the camera. If I attach the strap to the lens the lighter component (the body) is not putting so much strain on the mounts.

Slightly off topic - but didn't realise until I unpacked the lens last night that Sigma have changed away from the matt slightly course lens finish to an all smooth glossy style! very pleased.

Oh and the tripod lens mount does seem much more sturdier than first thought.

Just need to get out and use it now.

Always used to annoy me that I couldn't get rid of some of the marks on my old HSM II sigma. Much prefer the shiny OS version :0)

It confused me slightly because the WEX pic is still the matt style of OS lens, was more than happy when the glossy new one arrived.
