Hi I am really keen on buying the Curve 9300 but have heard rumors you have to be on a blackberry contract... Is this true? I'm already on Vodafone Contract and just want the bb as I'm bored with iPhone
anyone have any ideas? :)

You don't need a Blackberry contract unless you wish to use the Backberry data and push email facilities - it will work fine as a standard mobile phone, calls, text etc.

As Gramps said above.

But if you wish to use the blackberry services, such as email and blackberry messenger etc, you will need to the BB add on. I actually have it on my iPhone contract, it's around £5 per month with Voda iirc.

Correct, its known as Blackberry Internet Service (BIS). You need this for anything involving GPS too.

I have a BB and can't really see the point of buying one just to use it as a mobile, but it will work fine if that's what you want.

Right I see, Thanks everyone I think if I can find a good one cheap I'll get it and maybe upgrade to the bb add on thanks for your help :)

does anyone actually have the curve 9300? and what do they think of it?

My better half has just swapped her Blackberry 9000 Bold for a HTC Deire. The strongest feature of the Blackberry is it's push e-mail capability, particularly useful in a corporate environment which is why they're so popular with business users, and as someone said earlier you have to pay around a fiver a month to enable that service. If you're not going to be using that service I'd say the Blackberry is very limited compared to other smart phones, many of which now do push e-mail anyway.
