I've been checking out some of the stunning shots on the black & white thread as I really love that kind of picture and I was wondering if this is all done in post production or is there a preferred way of setting the camera up to help capture these shots well?

I don't know how all are achieving their shots since there are
many ways to but I shoot in colour and convert from within my
RAW converter.

Remember:
A succesfull conversion always starts with the correct colours.
Then only should you tweak in your artistic intent.

Thanks for that, will do

If shooting jpeg most cameras have a black and white setting, or numerous black and white settings that work well. However, if you shoot RAW even if you shoot in black and white the RAW photo will still be colour and you have to convert it in software.

I managed to get out to Packwood house today here are my black and white contributions for your perusal

I'm struggling to upload the second image, I'll try again tomorrow

This is pretty ok I think…
feels a tad slanted though!

The slant is organic, but I'd trim a smidgen off the left side to centralise the image more.

Which reminds me of typography, and the spacing of letters. Go look at the Trajan Column ... immaculate!

I had to use the straighten tool in Photoshop as it was I'll take another stab at it and see what I can come up with it, I'll also try to centralise it a little
