Black & White conversions

what do you guys use?

Is PS or LR good enough or do I need to get something like SilverEffects or similar

the best I seem to get most of the time are "Shades of Grey"

I like silver effx by Nik, that said most of the time I use my own mix in camera raw (I pretty much copied the SE look) I find it best to add a gentle curve after the B+W conversion to boost the contrast a bit.

I convert to bw by using the nikon bw profile in capture nxd - just been converting some carnival pitures as i'm not keen on high iso colour and it seems to work fine
