I have black, ink spots in all four corners on my view finder & my photos, only when i use my Nikon 18-105mm lens. I had this lens from One Stop Digital, Hong Kong in April. Is it repairable????? If so, any ideas how much it would cost??? :bang:

Thanks in advance.

Can you post a picture, sounds like vignetting to me.

If you send it back to Onestop your looking at £18 to send it over to HK RMSD and if they find nothing the the same to get it back.

If it came with a worldwide guarentee then it should cost to just the postage to whever deals with Nikon in the UK.

Repair shouldn't cost anything as it should still be under warrenty

Apologies if silly question but not due to a hood fitted to lens is it?

I think you got vignetting as above said.

Do you know what focal length you getting this problem?

I have problem like that on my 18-70 but thats when i use polarizer ........ dunno why tho, no big deal for me as i just crop the corners off ......

That'll be because the metal frame of your polariser just extends the overall length of the lens so that it cuts off the corners - very common problem.

I got vignetting on my 18-105 when I was lazy and put the polariser on top of the UV filter.

Solution is to not shoot at 18mm or use thinner or fewer filters!

Stopping down should lessen the effect- it will be more pronounced at large apertures

Hi everyone & thanks for responding!
Sorry for my late response.
My internet connection is dogdy because i'm on holiday in the middle of a Welsh valley. Gorgeous it is too!
Anyway, the black, "inky" spots appear more prominent in the top right & bottom left corners. The other two corners are just dark shadows.............. It all dissapears at 24mm.
I don't have that lens with me at the moment but I'll post a pic when i get home.
:)

Definately sounds like vignetting. Can you see it through the viewfinder, or only in pictures?

I get the feeling they'll disappear completely if the lens hood was removed.....
