Black image with colour elements???

how do you do this please? i really love the black and white image effect, but you have some slight colour showing. got loads of piccies of my little one that i'd love to do this with. can anyone tell me how to do it. currently have Photoshop Elements 5 on trial. it runs out tomorrow and i still havent figured out how it works. many thanks in advance of any answers and help i may receive

there are a number of ways to achieve this effect.

convert to B&W then use the history brush to bring back the colour.

or add a new layer convert to B&W, apply a layer mask and then you can use a black paintbrush to apply colour and a white one to reverse the effect.

I find the layer mask method easier and quicker to use.

sorry how do i get to the history tool brush please?

just find the history brush on the left hand side of the screen and click and remember you are rubbing away the black and white to reveal the colour
