I like converting some of my shots to B&W and have had some success especially with steam trains but when I don landscapes and try to get the hard gritty feel a la Ansel Adams I fail miserably, any tips would be much appreciated.I use Photoshop CS2 and Elements 7

I often find B+W needs a little more contrast to bring out the "punch" Which way are you converting to B+W the channel mixer or another method?

I use the Nik plugin, SilverEfex I think it's called. works really well.

Take a look at my latest upload!

Are you having a larf? Four posts, and each one has been a link to your flickr. Just stick the flickr link in your signature and post something worthwhile will you!

Please excuse my ignorance, what is SilverEfex? I also use CS2 and didn't understand a word about curves layer or the like. Can anyone point me at a good tutorial?

Thanks in advance,

Cheesy

You could try using duotone or monotone. You will find it under the Mode menu. Ifits greyed out convert to 8 bit first then greyscale. That should enable the duotone option and experiment with the curves from within that.
