I'm after a bit of advice. I want to do some black&white film processing. I last did it some 20
Years ago just after photo college so I know what to do. However I'd like to get some chemicals, but not sure what to get.

Does anyone have advice as to the make of chemical to get. I'm shooting Ilford HP5 and am just experimenting at the moment so don't want to spend a fortune at first. Us there any benefit to getting powder rather than ready made?

Also where's a good place to order it from?

Hp5 isn't that nice in rodinal, IMO, D76 isn't much harder to use and gives better results with that film.

I've never had a problem with the combination tbh but do understand its a subjective thing.

I know it produces cracking results but as a powder I think it's more of a faff and much more expensive.
 
I'll admit I dont like hp5 in rodinal... haven't tried in D76 yet
 
Liquid developers are much easier to use, but Kodak D76 (a powder developer) is the developer which is considered a baseline by all the film manufacturers. If you only have a few rolls to develop, a small amount of power developer like D76 might be better than buying a whole bottle of Rodinal.

^^^WHS, even the small bottles of rodinal do a shedload of films

Funnily enough, compared to most of the other liquid developers (especially if you re-use them) it isn't any cheaper - when I last did the sums it worked out to more than T-Max Dev.
 
Microphen or Perceptol, Both available very cheaply from eBay sellers.
