BJP competition

That looks like it'll have some good entries! Nothing of mine up to that standard, mind :P

Rubbish, you've done some good stuff. Just enter it, fluff it up with a few sentences of arty prose and you'll be fine
Haha - "this shot is out of focus to reflect the confusion we all experience in our lives at some time; the blurred selfie showing the artist's intedermined sense of self..." ;)

In a homage to Richard Prince ( https://www.theverge.com/2015/5/30/8691257/richard-prince-instagram-photos-copyright-law-fair-use ), I'm going to be ripping off anything that catches my eye from the gallery on this site, making a copy by photographing the on-screen image on Ektar 4x5 (well, it's a film competition), and adding ironic comments to the prints. If I win, as I fully expect to, I will of course be happy to provide a signed print (at a slightly reduced price) to anyone who has made the minor contribution to my artistic vision of supplying the images.

I decided to enter as well, why not? When I don't win, maybe I will be sufficiently interested to order an Acrilux from @stevelmx5 !

An acrilux? Surely you mean an Andysnap Superb... :D

Thanks @ChrisR I'll put your name down for one now ;0)

I think you'll find that's the AndySnap Random Hipster Whippet Delux....

I may as well enter this competition too, I've got no chance with the FPOTY! :help:

I've entered as well. I wont hear anything back, but it was quite good to list why I actually like a photo (as I'm a bit critical of my own photos), and pick my favourite five.

I've not exactly got a large back catalogue of film shots and I think I'd struggle to find 5 worthy of entering!

Psssh, you've got some gorgeous work on your site. Fingers crossed! :)

Friend of mine went to art college and one day I popped around and found him stabbing what can only be described as a beige mess on a drawing board with a paste brush loaded with more beige paint. I asked what he was doing and he replied, "it's a project for college; I'm painting the smell of bread".

"... and that represents the smell of bread to you, does it?" I asked.

"Doesn't matter what it looks like, I'll make up some crap that sounds arty and hand that in with it", he said. "As long as it sounds w*nky enough that's all they're looking for."

Judges like portraits then.

It would appear so. Some very good portraits but rather more than I would expect from a group of 20 shots.

Well, at the risk of getting flamed, I find the winning images to be really rather average. A quick search in some film groups on flickr yielded some considerably better images imho.

I see your comment on the BJP page hasn't been given a response yet. Maybe you've touched a nerve :0)

Where is it? Or do you need a Facebook account or something? I've just been searching.

The back story is usually more important than the image quality. That's what makes it art ;)

There aren't any comments on that page as far as I can see.

Gotta say I was pretty disappointed with the winners, nice enough I guess but a bit blinkered especially when they started a portrait of Britain competition a couple of weeks after that one. At least it was free so nothing lost.

You may have been filtered out, Woodsy - I can't see your comment either. Facebook can be quite weird in which comments it chooses to show or hide - even to the admins of a page!
