Not sure if this is the right forum or not but here goes,

I've had someone ask to by a few copies of a shot that they seen of a preview on a forum I posted them on. The problem is, is that the shot he wants was cropped heavily...

The original has a lot around it in terms of the green etc. He wants A4 prints and it was taken with a 40D, any advice on keeping the best quality possible if I boost it up or what my options are?

Thanks :bang:

Are you printing the image yourself or are you sending it to a lab. Also it depends on how much a crop was done on the original.

If you are printing the image yourself then let the printer re size for you. There's not much point in uprezzing, as all you are doing is adding additional pixels not data. Basically I'd give the same advice if the print was going to a lab but some labs require images at certain file sizes for specific print sizes.

I's also watch out on JPEG compression. This can give some odd artifacts. Don't over sharpen. This can really screw up a good image. Remember most printing programs add sharpening automatically, so watch out for this.

Best advice I can give is if you have a printer make a small print at A4 magnification from the original image and see what the results look like you may be amazed how good it is

How many pixels is the cropped version ? You can get good A4 prints at 150dpi (1753x1240).
