Yes
So I have all the mirrorless Fuji kit I need for now.
Got a bit of money burning a hole on my pocket.
What old favourite DSLR would you go for, try and keep the budget under £300

I am tempted with the following-
Sony A700 £75
Sony 16-50 2.8 £65
Sigma 70-300 APO £75

and maybe an old Minolta 35-105 for about £30

Total about £250

That's the thing about nostalgia, it's best left in the past! I loved the A700 and a900, but I wouldn't want to tarnish my memory of them by picking one up today

I've got so many (all on my shelf!). For me, the older the better. and Especially the more unusual or rare. I'm very fussy so I only ever buy ones in immaculate condition, with no marks on the rear LCD! Granted the last three are not DSLRs but,...

Next on my list are more Kodak DCS series and maybe a nice Fuji S3 Pro, Sony A900 would be good.

Canon D30 (My second ever DSLR)
Canon D60
Canon Rebel T6i
Canon D2000
Fuji S5 Pro
Fuji S1 Pro
Nikon D100
Nikon D50 (My first ever bought for me DSLR)
Kodak DCS Pro SLRN
Kodak DCS Pro 14N
Kodak DCS Pro SLR C
Kodak DCS 760
Kodak DCS660
Sony A700
Olympus E330
Samsung NX1
Samsung NX30
Samsung Galaxy NX

I never really had a favourite, but would like to try an A99 II with Sony and Minolta glass.

A D810 also appeals, but I never really felt Nikon lenses were up to it, and would need Sigma ARTs.

There'd need to be a gun to my head to get me back to a DSLR but assuming that happened I'd go for the Canon 5D and I'd fit a Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM. I had that combination and I took pictures I still look at with it. Apart from the kit being old technology now the main gripes at the time were the bulk and weight and the fact that the 5D seemed to constantly generate sensor contaminants.

But if I had to go back that's what I'd get because that's what I had and it'd bring back happy memories of holidays and days out with that kit.

Still got it!

I have serious nostalgia for my Canon 6D. So simple.

Just done it bought a d500 a month ago

With the exception of my Fuji kit, I keep my old cameras but rarely use them. Makes no economic sense so just nostalgia.

D5300*

*Still using one but it's clearly seen better days

My first DSLR was a Canon 10D. I imported it and remember taking it into Jessops who were about 2 months from receiving their first one. I loved that camera and have been tempted to get one to see the massive leaps that have been made. I suspect it is better to leave it as a pleasant memory rather than show how far away it is from its modern counterparts. It was a cracking camera though and the 250 quid for a 1GB microdrive felt like a complete rip off

I had one of those. One good thing about it was the relatively quiet shutter. The later EF-S compatible cameras sounded awful, way too loud in quiet areas.

For £300 with lenses- Nikon D90 , Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, Tokina 11-16 f/2.8

£300 ish without lenses- D3.

D810 and d850 with ART primes are hard to beat for tripod work, particularly considering the price. Great options from 28mm onwards, maybe 19 tilt shift but i dont really know this one

On canon im holding on to 5d3 with magic lantern hack specifically for bracketing features and ovf. It is still the best real estate setup from canon. Shame the 16-35 iii just barely resolves 20mp, and other wideangles are even worse... Sony and sigma glass is the way

D810 is still competitive and the D3s is excellent if you can handle the size / weight. But you'd struggle to get a good example of either for the £300 budget. A D700 or a D3 might fit. Cheaper suggestions - Fujifilm S5 Pro or Konica Minolta Dynax 7D.

Glad I held on to my 30D. Was a huge upgrade from my first ever DSLR, the 350D.

Fuji S5 Pro was the first one that sprung to mind. Lovely tones from that.

Possibly a Canon 5D, because it could share my Tamron Adaptal lenses with my Nikon D600... ;)

Canon Eos 5D with lenses G2 1020761.jpg

I enjoyed my old canon 40d so that would be my choice, basic but got some great photos with it.
SLR would be a choice of 2, my old Canon A1 and my old Canon eos 50e. I loved the eye focusing with that 50e.

I’ve just been going down memory lane thinking about cameras I enjoyed using..

Fuji S5 Pro

Sigma DP Merrils (I had all 3)

I remember enjoying the approach I adopted using these systems. I am currently looking out for a low use Fuji, luckily they aren’t mega bucks.. The Sigmas on the other hand ouch they fetch a price now, especially considering they went down to £259(or was it £279) which is when most of us purchased them.

My all time fave would have to be the canon 1Dmkiii I had five of them over the years coupled with the 400mm f5.6 it was a dream combo

That reminds me of something the late Roger Hicks wrote in one of his "last word" articles in Amateur Photographer.

In essence, he claimed that the most expensive second hand cameras, are so because they were neither much liked nor much good when they were new, so they sold very few examples! :exit:

I would probably go for a fullframe body that was released around 2013 or later. Old enough to be a bit nostalgic but recent enough to be useable unless you really want to be challenged in which case just shoot film :D

Olympus E-1. The shutter sound is almost orgasmic

Canon 40D for me as well loved the controls after my previous camera a 350D
I still have both of them but don’t use them anymore
the image quality after reprocessing the old Raws with modern software is excellent
