Hi all

I bought a refurbished Dell laptop and noticed that by default (this was fresh W11 Pro install) that Bit Locker is enabled for the C drive but suspended for the D recovery partition drive.

I can access the files I have loaded and am not aware that Bit Locker is doing anything even though it is enabled. Nothing I have done has asked me for the "Key".

I would welcome any insights about this function and what if anything I should be aware of now and in future is I leave the settings as they are?

TIA :)

Microsoft give a good description here...

bit locker is disk encryption and it is on by default
it is designed so if someone stole your laptop they can not take the disk out and place it in a caddy then browse your files
which was an old way of recovering data from corrupt drives years ago
with bit locker on anol a valid "logged on "user can access the drive.
