Birthday present ideas for a 50 year old needed..

So, most of you are well off that age, but I am not. I am getting pestered by friends and family (OK, my kids) for ideas to get me. I have no idea, so am hoping for some ideas here...
It needs to be something special, that will last, and that will remind me of who gave it to me, and when.
For Christmas Billie gave me a chain (for my neck) The only idea I have is a silver chilli to go on the chain. So any ideas like that would be good. Camera stuff - I buy what I need. Music - I buy what I need. Clothes - stuff that sort of stuff.
Smellies - I wash.
Budget - from £5 to £50 at most. What can you suggest ?

Cant even think of gifts for myself let alone others, nevertheless Steve I will sit for a while and :thinking: and then after a while I may just go:shrug:.........:)
 
How about a bottle of 10 year old, or older, malt, place it in the cabinet, don't drink it and for the next however many years it is maturing further every time you look at it it will remind you of who bought it:)
 
Steve....as you know, I'm less than 4 months behind you on this one and anticipating the same questions in the near future. I'll put my thinking cap on

PS...I'll be over in Spain by the end of next week...working in Callahora (somewhere south of Bilbao) for a week to 10days.
 
my wife brought me a minibreak in Guernsey for my 50th last sept very enjoyable,

otherwise its a nightmare thinking of presents at any age for me as said everything i want is silly money:'(
 
If it's something that will last, how about something from when you were a child. Something really nostalgic from the 181950 / 60's?
 
You know, when I was asked, there was only one thing I could think of, and I burst out crying, as I realised that I was now truly old.
I said I wanted my health back. Not that I am dying or anything, but I have a few slightly-more-than-minor health issues that are getting me down a little, and saying what I did made me sound so much like all grandparents sounded when I was a kid..

I was taken to New York for my 40th, don't smoke or drink whisky don't want to be given a nose hair trimmer as it is the only area that hair is still growing on my body. I have bungee jumped, and been up in a hot air balloon, don't feel that a parachute jump is a good idea as my ankle is awaiting removal. I don't wear a watch, and the plastic surgery I need will cost way more than anyone can afford.
Maybe colonic irrigation - I wouldn't forget that in a hurry..!

I'm a couple of years away from the '50' but what I could really do with is life membership of one of those places with Isolation tanks.

The idea of being able to go and have an hour of total peace & quiet .....
 
mrgubby - well worth it - I used to belong to a gym which had a floatation tank - it is a wonderful experience, and so good for the head - wish we had one near us, but I guess it is a 2 hour drive to our nearest..
 
How about a real nice digital photo frame full of pics of close family and friends etc?:shrug:
 
There's a website called unique gifts or something like that which i think does quite original and interesting presents :) sounds like u have done a lot though already! hmm..

I'd agree with that, something to treasure and which will last.
 
hair dye?support stockings?cardigans?:lol:tartan slippers with a zip up the front?:D
drive in a tank or 4x4 something would be cool, if everyone clubbed together.
get em to sort you out a go at archery. great fun,and you dont have to be fit to do it.cheapish to get into if you buy beginers kit too.
oh god, ive just remembered , i,m only five years away from 50.

My two gave me one for my birthday last October ... :thumbs: ... and I was surprised at both how good it is and how much I really like it ... ;)

The best thing would of course be to go traveling, but you're not going to be doing that on £50, or £500, and £5,000 is a bit over budget :D

I personally dont like the digital photo frames and would say a decent book of photos from your past of you and your family would be best. This will easily cost £50 though...

Or how about a Kai Shun knife... they're cool. I want one!
