Can anyone suggest where to go walkies with my camera? The GF has a meeting on the 18th May in Birmingham and I'm the designated driver for the day, think I drew the short straw

Basically I have about 5 hours to kill, don't think my body could handle 5 hours worth of coffe shops etc

Any ideas and suggestions greatfully recieved.

Cheers

Al

The town centre is pretty interesting anyway but I keep meaning to get up to Five Ways and do the cloud reflection bit on those tall glass buildings there.

The canals down the back of broad street and the gas street basin are excellent. Well they was a couple of years ago when i last went that way.

Town hall has just reopened too and has been restored to its former glory.

depends how far into birmingham you are, there is the Black counbtry musuem up that way sort of west brum kidderminster type area (never ask me to map read :)) and thats real cool for a few hours can go down the mine there and all sorts. Benn and liked it.

:bonk: Nowhere near Kidderminster. It's on the outskirts of Dudley heading towards tipton. You could head in to the black country if you wanted to capture some run down industry, but if it was me I'd head over to the canals. More waterways than venice don't you know!!

Not really in Birmingham, but not that far is the Severn Valley Country Park. Lovely walks, and the steam railway runs every weekend so lots of photo opportunities there. I've yet to really explore the city centre properly, but around Broad Street/Fiveways there's a fair bit to photograph, and the canal is nice too (great burger place there as well!)

Severn Valley is well far from brum.

Have a look on my site for some piccies :)

Definately the canals, you'll get some great photo ops there, I walked round them last year and hope to be back again later this year.

It depends what your after, i'm from Birmingham ....
If you want the mayhem then stick around the center but be warned EVERYWHERE gets busy.
If you want countryside, head for Meriden which is about 7 or 8 miles out of the city towards Coventry.

Indoors, Think Tank at millenium point is good. The canals are great, but busy.

I'll show you a few shots i took a while back ...

These were taken on Broad Street (but the wheel has gone now.

But note, these were taken of a Sunday morning, early before anything opened.

Once the shops are open, there are people everywhere.

Let me know what your looking for and i'll try and come up with a few ideas.
I'll check my diary and see if i'm busy that day - could arrange to meet.

Oh, you'll have seen many Twycross Zoo pictures around, thats about 15 minutes drive from Birmingham.

Nip down the A45 & photograph the new Coventry City Football Club arena- now thats worth visiting!!!

What? I've seen it loads and never thought once of a photo op.
Got any pics yourself?

Well less than a week and I shall be visiting glorious Birmingahm for a few hours. I may have a wander around the sealife centre as thats where I've got to drop the GF, plus free entry is a bonus :D
Anyone ever been there?

GF works for Sealife, and I'm the designated taxi driver :( Not sure who's worse off, me or her, she has a 5 hour meeting, I've just got to entertain myself for 5 hours, oh and drive.

So if anyone from Birminham has 5 hours to kill, I'm free :D

Actually I am from Birmingham, but alas can't make it, cause I am here in Cornwall :)
