I've got a nest in the roof between tiles and felt, starlings. I've seen them fly in and out. I've been pretty tolerant over winter while they're there but its just driving me nuts now in the morning. Its right over my bedroom and they wake me up. So they got to go. I've tried tapping on the felt from the inside to scare them out but that doesn't work, without lifting roof tiles to get in there is there a better way of getting rid of them? I know its illegal to tamper with nests! but this has been going on for months now and its doing my head in, its them or me and its going to be them.

Have they just been in there in the winter and you haven't done anything much?

They won't have done "nesting" over winter, but roosting. However, now is nest building time and you will need to be careful if they have already started to build. Have you seen them taking nest materials in?

It won't be nesting season at the moment it's more likely that they're just using it as a roost.

These might help.

just get up there turf them out and block up the holes

Way back in the 80s we had an infestion of Rats in the House, had to get Rentokil in... That could be a slightly expensive option for your problem.

While it is unlikely nesting will have started, it might have, especially in a nice, comforatable place like a roof space. However, assuming it hasn't, do you have easy acces to where they are getting in? It one thing getting them out but another keeping them out. If the entry point isn't blocked there is a good chance they will be back.

I can symapthise with the effect they are having. Apart from the general noise and some squabbling, starlings seem to enjoy just stomping around.
