I'm looking for some one to one bird (and/or wildlife) photography tuition in the North East ideally.

Anyone have any recommendations/suggestions?

I've watched at LEAST a bajillion YouTube videos. I've spent "some" time out there. I know I need to put the hours in. I'm happy to do so. But would like a day of guidance too.

Thanks in advance,

No idea but hopefully you will find someone, in the meantime you may want to have a read through these tutorials which start out at the basics, anything you can learn no matter how small will be to your advantage if you go out with someone in the field.

Shame you live too far from me Stew - Hope you find someone local mate :)

I wonder if this is of any help....

Two caught my eye.... Colin Jones but would need traveling and this one which mentioned North East selection

Hopefully you can find a 121 that suits you and from a photographer who has good credentials & testimonials.

Stew, you can't beat putting the time in and learning yourself.

Fieldcraft doesn't always come naturally but you will learn by your mistakes, the most important thing to remember, the welfare of the wildlife must always come first.

They are creatures of habit, watch their routine, they'll regularly feed/hunt the same areas at the same time each day. Try get there earlier than you would normally see your quarry, find some cover, hunker down and let it feel comfortable coming to you. You'll also find some are a lot more tolerant of humans, another good point to look for.

I can't speak from experience as I've never been on any workshops or to a paid hide but I do know people that have and, like owt, heard good and bad reports.

One that springs to mind is a very well known chap on the East Coast ( I won't name him). I know people that know him personally and speak very highly of him. I also know someone who went on one of his trips who was hoping for a little advice and he wasn't at all helpful, maybe he was just having an off day?

I suppose the one thing to remember about any of these workshops/trips/paidhides, the only thing driving them is money.

Try and find places with a hide (eg Wallington Hall) near you. There may be other photographers there who can help you initially, or try the Washington Wildlife Centre

Personally I don’t think it’s something that can be taught in a day , who ever you choose to help will also have to have knowledge of your Own gear .. a guy that is canon DSLR reliant will be lost trying to advise you with Sony mirrorless for instance .. so it might help if you stated your gear … field craft is another matter entirely ,I do well from walkabout , a bit better from a hide but get my best shots from using observation and choosing a spot to use the car as a hide .
I have helped lots of peeps along there path in the past but I’m based in north wales/ Wirral area

There is also Ron McCombe in the Scottish Borders who runs various things ( I have never used him). There are also lots of places that are not too far which will give you opportunities to learntechniques etc - Farnes, northumberland coast has lots of places which are good. I am based just north of Berwick and happy to help point you in the right direction if you want ( depending on what you want), pm me if you want

good luck

Thanks Lez. Seems we have loads of birds and not many teachers! I've tried to do some searches online. There are some folk in Yorkshire that I've emailed.
They have E MAIL in Yorkshire ?:LOL::LOL:
