Has anyone got problems with rats and bird feeders, I want the birds but not the rats, I’ve tried poison and now I’ve sent for an air rifle, has anyone got a solution other than stop feeding the birds?

It depends on the bird feeder , if it's a pole mounted one you can get a "tray" type thing that stops the food from falling on the ground.

Sounds like you're feeding far too much mate. Are these enclosed feeders or tables?

Rats!
Ive noticed a couple of hedgehogs at night and the pigeons are a damn nuisance but I hadnt considered rats!
My feeder is pole mounted ... doesnt stop the squirrels chucking everything around though!

Cover the pole with some grease half way up , the squirrel soon give up.

There feeders are set above a home made circular catcher table supported on a 4x4 stump.

As evidenced here ... Rat Run ...

Generally food on or near the ground is a :shake: ... and you should clear up each evening to reduce the risk ...

However ... the little blighters are not averse to daylight robbery as you can see from my thread ... and that was just ground seed on paving slabs ... :suspect: ... had to put a stop to that and have not seen them since ... luckily they are not nesting on my property ... :nono:

You could consider a cat ...

But then birds will be next on the list ...

Ewww! thanks for bringing this to my attention guys!
I quite fancy a cat actually Ven.
Theres a real big one next door, & though he seems to have scared away the other cats in the neighbourhood, and keeps spraying up my front door ... he isnt stopping the birds coming visiting.

Ive got 2 female Blackbirds, 1 male, 2 Pigeons, and a Dove on the lawn at the moment ... next doors cat could have a ball if it were to move its fat, lazy, feline butt.
Bit like me & the camera actually! :embarrassed:
