Yes
A while ago I got a lot of flyers printed. I have recently opened one of the 2nd packs and noticed that on a large % something else has been printed over/under my images and thus they are totally useless.

Sadly, they refuse to do anything about it.

what reason is it that they will do nothing? it was too long ago and you should have checked straight away?

Pretty much yeah, but then im not sure how im supposed to check through every single flyer. The first few in the pack were ok.

I tried Moo for some business cards, but the colour reproduction was appalling.

We sent them back, they agreed, replaced the order and they were just as bad, so we gave up.

A couple of months later my assistant was at a party and handed over a card to a woman who asked if they were Moo cards, which my assistant confirmed.

She then said that she was the technical manager of Moo, that the colours were terrible and she'd have them re-done, but that was the last we heard..

You can't beat dealing with a local printing firm. I used to run one in Maidenhead, and we were forever having people come to us with stories like this - having assumed that we'd be too expensive to even ring to start with.

And unless you're talking about many tens of thousands of flyers, you should open each pack and have a quick flick though to establish there isn't anything drastically wrong in the print run (like they've not run enough at full colour/quality in the case of lithographic printing, and ended up chucking in the startups to make up the numbers).

Strange., I've never had that problem with them.

I bought some Luxe cards from them a while back and wasn't happy with the design (my fault), but also the way they had been cropped. They agreed to send me out a new batch without any fuss, and gave me the option to change the design to one I was happy with. At £28 for 50 cards, most companies wouldn't dream of doing that.

How long ago are we talking here? Under the Sale of Goods Act, goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality, and fit for purpose. You are expected to report any complaint within 'a reasonable time', but what's one of them? If you bough a couple of year's worth of flyers, it isn't unreasonable for you not to see the ones at the bottom of the pile for quite a time.

I'd get back to them, or at least speak to Trading Standards.

Tell 'em you'd like the goods as ordered, ta very much.

That

In my day job I use optima graphics , at Topsham (devon) for pretty much everything - If I wanted biz cards or anything else printing they'd be my first port of call.

100% agree. I use a local company and they are top notch... not expensive and always reply to queries and e-mails immediately.

Never had one single reason to send anything back or complain. Only issue I had with them was that they didn't send a proof one time before printing. I told them I wasn't happy... their response? If you don't like them we'll re-print for free. However the cards were perfect so there was no need.

I also think it's interesting that small local photography businesses will use people like Vista Print or Moo instead of supporting other small local businesses in hard financial times

The other advantage of using local firms is the personal touch - it's far harder for them to hang up on you/delete e-mails when you're stood at the counter in the flesh! They're also more likely to go the extra mile for a local customer who will probably recommend them to others - after all, word-of-mouth is probably the best advertisement method. There's also the speed benefit - no delivery delays and there's always the possibility of a rush order being whizzed through if necessary. Oh, locals are also easier to drop off a case of beer to reward excellent service (which tends to ensure future cooperation too!!!)
