Yes
As above really.

I chose this as the first theme as I think everybody pretty much has access to a tree, and if they can't be bothered to get outside then I'm sure most people will have some sort of interpretation of the theme somewhere.

I'm off out in a bit to see what I can find!

That's a great subject Gandhi. I think it should get alot of people out of the house and more involved. Trees are everywhere!

.............off to play in the forest.:p

Round of applause for JBHAmmond for the first post, and a very nice photo it is as well!

Gandhi - is that notice something you knocked up yourself? ;)

JB - liking your shot. Has a nice frame to it with the brances up top.

Matt

The notice was there, I just changed one of the lines of the text, it originally said something about damage to a wall, as opposed to resembling something rude!

Oh the joys of photochop!

Looks like its been oversharpened Mike. Good photo though.

Ken, that shot is excellent.
The only way I can think of improving it, is in the presentation.
It would look a lot better using black for the mount area.
This will help emphasise the colours to the viewer.

Thanks Matt, I'll give it a go. Cheers mate.

@ Matt: Wow! he's stronger and heavier than he looks.... BUT still aerodynamic enough to travel across counties ;) All that is needed is the "Steve Austin" (The Bionic Man) sound effect to go with the pic. ;)

some really good shots here, and Noah, love the acorn idea!

ohh nice shot Garnok, like that!

yeah, im liking that shot garnok. you mustve been up early to get that one.

thats one crazy ornament EosD! still, it makes for a nice strong image.

My apologies to everyone for starting this thread and then biggering off and leaving you all to it! Work has been a load of hassle this week and I've not had time to breathe, let alone post stuff on the forum!

I think the standard of Images posted on the thread has been exceptionally high. I'll post up some critiques in a while when I've a good long look at them all.

I'm also pleased to see that there has been a fair number of images posted, I was a bit concerned that this one was gonna fall flat on it's face.

Thanks guys and gals

Critiques to follow.........

I have to say that it seems to have worked well gandhi..so hats off to you for suggesting it and to the members that took part and made it a success. Lets see what happens in the next round :)

JBHammond; I like the silhouette and the alance betweent he folage at the top and the foreground is good, framing the central image nicely. I feel the tree itself could've done with beng slightly more off centre though.

Mine; Well, rush job, say no more.......

Bachs; I really like the washed out colours in this one, it looks almost like an infrared shot. I'm guessing it's a winter shot, nice textures too.

Mike; I think the smoky area to the right is probablt lens flare of some description and the white speckles are definately due to too much sharpening emphasisng artefacts. Good stropng shot but I feel the saturation could've been boosted to give it even more impact.

Kenco; I like the purple hues to this image but I don't think the tree itself stand out enough, a slightly lower view point might have helped seperate the tree form the bridge better.

Matt; Nice shot, as you can tell from my effort I like the more lighthearted side of photography sometimes!

Jewel; I like the idea of your shot but I feel it could've done with alittle tidying up in the 'shop to remove the red bollard and the gunk floating on the river/lake at the front. It stops the eye wandering around the frame so much.

JBHammond (again ;) ) You can post as many times as you like dude. nice idea but i think there is too much empty black space on the left.

Stepheno; Again, I like the idea but I feel the composition is a little weak. If you'd been closer to the cones it may have worked better for me.

dod: Bit confused for my liking, but I'm never saying anything nice about your photo's again as you're so much better than me and I'm jealous!

Liberalis; I think this might be one of my favourites, nothing new but a real good shot, Good range of tones and the lights worked really well to show the structure of the tree.

Noah; Great shot, good strong composition and lighting and a different take on the theme. A++

EosD; As above really, Good capture of the detail and the colours work really well.

Garnock; Up to your usually high standards. Again, very impressive, atmospheric shot. I really must get up earlier in the morning to get more of this type of shot!

Overall I think the standard of peoples shots is fantastic, and I'm well pleased so many people bothered to get a photo out. I'm sorry if my critiques have offended anyone but it's just my very subjective opinion. I think if I had to pick fvourite it would be either Garnock, noah or liberalis in no particular order.

And so to the next round.........
