I need to clear out a bit.,.....

I have my dad's old BetaMax, can't recall the make but think it might be Hitachi? It weighs a ton and none too sure whether I still have any tapes for it.

Rather than throw it..,....and without too much hassle does it have a value and if so bearing in mind the weight where to advertise/sell it

PS some while back I recall a documentary about firms that buy old items for use in film & theatre?

I think it was only Sony that did Betamax? I had one and kept it for many years as we had family nostalgia tapes on it, but eventually I just copied them to DVD. There will doubtless be some classic electronics fans around

Thanks for the insights.

I only thought Hitachi because we had that as the colour TV (and very good it was too).

Next time I am digging through the old stuff. .....I will have to make note of the brand & model number :)

Completed sales on ebay suggest £25 to £250 depending on model and condition. So could be worth next to nothing, or could be worth a decent meal out at a restaurant a couple of times...

The ones with the buttons on the top were worth quite a bit. We had one. That was a sony. Went kerthunk in a very nice way when it did things. Think the school had some the same.

Panasonic were probably an early brand as well. Don't know about Hitachi. The first colour TV we had was a Mitsubishi.
