So looking online and the old eBay I see there are many many wide brimmed hats for sale, both here and China! I've ordered a Trespass Midge net that needs a wide brimmed hat to be the most effective. I have a cheap hat here but dang I sweat a lot wearing it due to the material so, is there a wide brimmed hat that is good and hiking and recommended by others?

Thanks!

I have the original as vented wasn't available when I got mine. It can get warm so given your previous comment maybe the vented would suit better? I just dunk mine in cold water on hot days.

I bought one recently, but as I was walking through chester zoo the other day, a woman pointed me out to her mum, saying "that fella's wearing a ladies hat!" Gutted for a few minutes, but it keeps the sun out of my viewer :)

I also have this one. Also comes in green. Has a strap, and climate control technology.....

Tilley copy by the look of it - with the addition of the popper on the side to try and say it isn't a copy, no doubt!

Mine is over 30 years old...still going strong, and the Tilley floats and has a return label so it can be returned if you lose it. Stays on even at 40 knots in a powerboat too, the brim folds, but the hat stays on.

Tilley. Lifetime guarantee (and they do honour it - I've had 2 replacements so far and about to go for another), comfortable and packable. Not cheap but less expensive if you have a GoOutdoors card and buy it from them.

I found a canvas hat with a big wide too floppy brim in a charity shop for a few quid. I noticed that the edge of the brim was sealed with a little bit of ribbon sewn across it, which had some space inside the turnover for a bit of wire. I pushed some wire through it to stiffen it and give it a moldable shape. My camera has an EVF, and as a spectacle wearer whose developing cataracts my eyes suffer badly from loss of contrast and detail in dim areas if there's bright areas in my field of view. The hat's wide low brim works very well as a kind of giant lens hood for my eyes. It also makes me look recognisably weird in a crowd.

Another vote for Tilley.

For those that perspire more, consider the air-flo (mesh near the top) and they also have a sort of sweatband sewn in so that it doesn't stain the brim of the hat.

Been out in some windy conditions too and it's never blown off.

They are quite particular about the sizing so don't assume a 7 1/2 (or whatever) is right, just because your other hats are that size.

Best to visit a retailer and try them on before you buy. GoOutdoors would be my suggestion - buy a discount card at the same time and get a 10% (IIRC) discount off the hat and still be quids in!

FTR, the sweat band stops the sweat running down your forehead but it'll still stain the hat. The AirFlo works better than the older brass eyelets for ventilation. Mine have blown off but I've always caught them and also use the strings when I'm expecting wind...

This is a me too post - I have a Tilley hat too - the mesh vented one. Just to add they can go in the washing machine to keep them clean and remove sweat as recommended by Tilley.

Another vote for Tilley.

Maybe seem expensive but under 2pounds/year (so far!)
