Hi all. I have a bit of a dilemma at the moment. I was the photographer at a big dance competition last week, it was my first one but was a roaring success I'm pleased to say.
I was one of two photographers. I had a studio set-up away from the stage and I photographed the dancers post and pre-performance.
I edited the pics and printed the images throughout the day. However, the stage prints my colleague took several thousand which we will be whittling down over
the next 48 hours. My big problem is I have no place or system to sell the photos. We know what we want to sell. Prints, digital downloads, photos with frames, photo magnets, etc.
I do not have a proper website, just a facebook business page. However I choose to sell the products has to be up and running in the next 3 days and be simple as possible and
as cheap as possible. Any suggestion for a confused beginner would be much appreciated!

Thanks
JayP

do you want to have an e-commerce website and get order in and then ordering from suppliers? or you want something all-in-one sort of stuff like photobox and the likes?

yes it would be e-commerce. We would get the frames, etc, ourselves and we just want a way to sell to the product to the dancers, parents, and teachers.

first of all you will need a domain name and hosting sorting... then choose CMS (wordpress + woocommerce) or go for something like opencart/prestashop

You are almost certainly aware of this but in order to maximise the sales opportunity you have with this job you needed to have this all in place before the shoot so you could hand out details and show/sell ASAP after the event. Every day that passes your sales will reduce overall. I hope that when you say there were another photographer that they are not selling against you (and were working with or for you).

As you have nothing in place, and I'm making an assumption based on only having a FB page and no website, that you are not skilled in building a site. And that in asking the question you haven't done any research prior to this on a viewing/ordering solution.

So in that case my recommendation is to find a quick tactical solution that sees you through this job with the minimum of contractual commitment, and with speed of availability so you can start selling these images. Whilst it pains me to say it Photobox would probably be a good solution for you for this - give up on your desire to order frames and self-fulfill and hand it off to Photobox with the possible exception of custom/large orders which might be more tolerant of the time delay. Even if you ordered a domain, and some webspace and quickly set it up yourself you are likely looking at beyond the 3 days you are stating.

Certainly don't pick a service that is going to tie you into 12 months, or a large upfront cost - you may find that when you do spend the time you'll want something else. You are looking either for a free option or something that will give you a months free trial or one free gallery.

Good luck and assuming there is a next time make sure you have it all ready to go before you start shooting.

FWIW I use a self-hosted Photocart solution integrated into my website which has served me well for 6-7 years now and which allows me to fulfill the orders myself.
