best way to remove shadows from photos

could anyone please tell me the best way to remove shadows from photos that have been cast with a flash, i've tried the magnetic lasso tool around the image, then cloning some background over the shadow's but it does take ages, and can be painstaking, so i just wondered if anyone knew a better and quicker way of doing this, in PE5 or CS2/3,all help greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Buy a stofen for future photo's

You could do it with a fair amount of work (for a good result).

As Alex has said....stofen will soften shadows. Looks like you have not bounced off the ceiling?? It is possible to almost eliminate shadows from flash use.
