Yes
I print and mount my own pictures.

Currently I supply mounted prints. The mount is placed on a backing card and stuck with double sided tape.

My real issue is managing to place the mount to backing card. Generally I place the double sided tape on the mount and slowly join the two together, but invariably they don't match up perfectly, and end up slightly skewed.

And advice on how to join the two together in a better way?

I've recently started printing and framing images (it's very rewarding) - I use an adhesive, pva I think it is. It allows a small amount of re-positioning. If I have to use tape I cut the backing board bigger than the mount and then trim once taped.

You might consider making a simple assembly jig - maybe a baseboard with two adjoining fences at a true 90 degrees and of sufficient height that you can lower the mount onto the backing vertically and in register.

Thanks for that. I thought about using PVA but never really liked the idea.

droj, the jig method was my initial thinking on this one. I was over complicating it to be honest with adjustable fences for different sizes of mount.

Never used copydex for mounting prints. Worth a go though

Used to use 3M spraymount years ago.

I'm currently devising a jig to allow me to mount the the backing board to the mount so that it registers correctly.

Hi Ian

In regard to marrying up the mount and backing board do read my post hereProblems with print mounting - advice sought and the watch the first video as that shows a very straightforward way of marrying up the two elements. I have used this technique from the very first time I mounted prints for framing though as noted I do not glue the prints but T hinge them :)

I should have made it clear, I only use pva to glue the backing to the mount, not the print to the backing or mount, most prints so far I've taped using a T hinge method, though will be looking at the mounting tissues etc ...

FWIW I was unsure of the pH of PVA and thankfully for those that use it it does seem that the offering by bookbinding suppliers houses and craft sources the PVA is pH Neutral so as Paul says should be OK for bonding the mount to the backing board though

But IMO for peace of mind I would only apply as a line around the edges and not too close to the actual print.......................I think that sort care should be taken especially 9n case of the future need to re-mount the print? Having said that I have been pleased with instant dry gluing with my ATG applicator and like the use of PVA because of some natural curl in the mount and/or the backing board the mounted print still needs to weighed down to ensure the bond is properly affixed.

PS In my case I am talking about Giclee prints that are more prone to moisture changes, whereas a C type print should be 100% stable though could potentially have a slight curvature depending on where on the roll of the print came from and likely lends itself to using dry mounting tissues and a heat press to keep it totally flat.
