Best way to get sand in a picture?

Rather than clutter up the edit pic thread, I thought I'd ask here.

What's the best way to get sand into a picture?

Example- latest 'how would you edit this' wanted to replace the water with sand, copy lyme house and free transform into my sand pit and turn it into a sand castle.
Using brushes and the colour swatch seems very difficult to get a realistic effect.I've seen some sand patterns as well - is it best to select an area then fill with a pattern or do you need a photo of sand and then brush over the sand to reveal the house in the same way as you can sharpen eyes if that makes sense?

im no guru but I would maybe get a picture of a beach at a simlar angle to which you was looking for and cut and free transform the shape to fit the area you require? maybe?

sure theres a better way and ill look back later to find out how lol.

Ah- good point about the angle-I'll bear that in mind for other images that I'm trying to move.

I'll post some pics at the weekend which will hopefully help with description and hopefully someone can point us in the right direction.

The only thing with the pic on a pic is that I think I would lose some of the detail of the object I'm changing to sand.
Hopefully be easier when I show what I mean- stand by....
