My sis has been given £50 worth of amazon vouchers from work and wants to buy a tripod. She wants something fairly lightweight as she already has 2 kids to cart around and all the stuff that goes with it! she is just starting off in photography.

any suggestions?

If she would consider buying second hand. You can pick up a Manfrotto 055CL for around £50 on Ebay. This is an excellent tripod and very popular.

Sorry, I've just seen your sis wants a lightweight tripod. The 055 classic will not be suitable as it is more medium to heavyweight.

No more redsnapper suggestions please, i've got one and she says it's too heavy. She's not a hardcore landscaper so dosent need quite as much support, it's just to get her going in her photography class. Also they don't sell redsnapper on amazon and it's £50 above her budget.

I have a old fashioned jobby, but with a bag you can throw over your shoulder the weight isn't an issue.

Just a thought.

i was always told that with tripods you should buy once and dont buy cheap as cheap tripods are a false economy

Yeah i know but you can't ask someone who is testing out whether or not photography is for them to spend top dollar on a piece of equipment they may only use once, especially when she's got hungry mouths to feed. I'm sure you might be able to afford a Manfrotto or a Bogen but she has £50 and that's her budget.

Thanks for the camlink links :)

Thanks for the camlink links :)

Why not go to Jessops and check out the Camlink before buying online - I think you'll be surprised how sturdy and well made it is? I bought it with the intention of "upgrading" to a Manfrotto or Redsnapper once I got more experience - but I really don't feel the need to now to be honest.

And no, I don't work for Camlink...! ;)
