Best tablet for saving/exporting photos

Hi folks,

I'm currently preparing for a traveling trip for the rest of the year and would like advice on which tablet to buy..

I would like something as an alternative to my small laptop that can connect via WiFi to the internet so I can browse for the next place to visit while I'm away (3G not needed).

I need however to be able save onto it RAW and JPEG files from my CF cards to back up all my photos, so need a connection for a card reader not just an SD slot. It would be great aswell if I could then export them onto a portable hard drive for extra backup.

I'm open to suggestions but would only really like to pay about £150 second hand, so think iPads are out of the question, I don't care what make, model or how old it is as long as I can browse the interenet and backup my photos.

most tablets and ipad , have limited power available to the usb port , so this limits what you can plug into them

Ahh ok, by power do you mean the size of the card it will take, or will just plugging in a card reader be too much for it?

the card reader may reqire more power to drive it , i have a reader for my i pad that works on and off . its not reliable, most should be ok with SD cards if they have a slot, i can only talk about ipad as that is all i have , i also have the official reader for it (just supports SD) that always works

I have an iPad 3, and use it to save all my files. I have it set up with the photo stream, once the images are uploaded to the stream (automatically happens when connected to wifi) I delete them from the iPad. Works a treat. Then I edit them on the mac. It saves raw & jpg images, and you just get the camera connection kit, plug in the card reader one and away you go. It's a perfect system for me.

Personally with an iPad 3 or above I wouldn't bother with a card reader, they aren't all that reliable, and the camera connection kit is only $30 or so (you can get much cheaper ones on eBay too, but I have no experience with those).

I can't comment on other tablets as I've only had the iPad...

id stick to a small laptop for this purpose to be honest.

youll not be able to run a hard drive from an ipad after they dropped the power from the multiplug.

some Androids may allow connecting things via usb adapters. Think custom ROMs... maybe

Ideally you want a retina macbook pro 13" for your travel. Tablets are not there yet.

It would be more expensive, but you could pick up a W8 tablet. I have the HP ElitePad for business and it's very good: true, full Windows OS so no limits on supported formats. Has dual USB ports, HDMI, wifi, bluetooth, 3G, etc. But a little on the pricey side with the features you don't need...
