anyone advise what is the best free sony arw converter to use? i have a sony alpha and need a converter to convert to jpeg. for some reason my photoshop doesn't read the files. i'm using fastone image, but that is rubbish as it loses a lot of quality when coverted to jpeg.

Have you seen if there are any updates for your photoshop and have you installed the latest Adobe CAmera Raw for your photoshop ?

Sony IDC is free, comes with your camera and you can download more recent versions from the Sony website.
I use the adobe converter in lightroom 3 which seems to do the job well, but that's paid for software. Presumably photoshop uses the same underlying converter.
