It's taking a while to figure out the "sweet spot" on this camera. Once you zoom out, your Aperture range shrinks, and being a small sensor you don't have a great range to start with.

Shutter speed 1/500, Aperture f/5.9 215 mm, ISO 200. All critique welcome.

Well, there's not a lot wrong with that. You're obviously on the right track. Well done.

Very well done.
I would be delighted if I had got that

Is that 215mm the actual focal length or the 35mm equivalent? I'd guess that it's the latter (but I could be wrong!) Good shot of a charming little bird, especially from a compact/bridge. Stay away from the extreme long end and it can give decent results.

Getting better all the time- do you have image editing software?/

I suggest Topaz De-Noise Ai - 30 day free trial too-- https://www.topazlabs.com/denoise-ai

I think it's 35mm equivalent, it was zoomed over about 4 yards. The extreme zoom is very hard to use, the slightest movement and you can't find the subject again and have to pull back out and start again !

That's impressive Les, you can really see how it cleaned the noise out of the blacks and sharpened the tail. I've been using a free product called Sharpstone, I am still learning how to get the best from it though ,it's another learning curve on top of the camera.

Great stuff Keith. It's interesting how quick you're progressing. I'm happy for you, well done.

Personally I use Photoshop 2022- Topaz and Lightroom :)

Try GIMP 2022 it's on Amazon for around £10 and quite good -
