As the title suggests, i'm looking to purchase a set of rechargeables for my Nikon SB900 and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I'm looking for performance rather than value for money. Many thanks.

I've never had a problem with 7dayshops 2800mah ones, cheap and perform well, they even come in a handy plastic container that can be clipped together.

energizer high capacity hold there charge well when stored and perform well in use.

I bought a set of the CAMLINK 2700's off ebay for £10 including wallcharger.
Work a treat in my flashgun and last for ages!

If you really really want performance over price then non-rechargeable lithium is the way to go.

Nimh batteries are pretty good for flash use but there are two types. Normal and LSD

LSD - Low Self Discharge are great if you want to have a flash in your bag and maybe only use it once a month or so but usually only go up to 2000mAh
Normal - tend to offer a higher capacity when fully charged but will lose about 5-10% within a day of sitting idle and then around 0.5–1% per day, but even then you usually still have more capacity than a fully charged LSD

Considering it only takes and hour or two with a fast charger i chose normal nimhs since i usualy know if i'm going to be needing flash or not before i leave the house, and even if i'm caught out i still have enough charge to get by.

I've been using GP2700mAh rechargeables. Have about 60 of 'em now, and they're absolutely great.

They're just as good as the Eneloops except that if you wanna go more than a couple of weeks between using them, you'll want to give them a top up charge (but the 35 minute charger I got with 'em does that real quick). :)

In an SB-900, I wouldn't go less than a 2600mAh, especially if you're belting out at full power, and you'll get recycle times of just over 2 seconds.

I use eneloops 2,000mAh and found them to be fab, I have used these in SB600 and SB900 units Without a glitch.

Eneloop are great. charge them up, stick them in your bag and they will be there ready for action when you need them.

I use eneloops in my 430 EZ's and they recharge very fast and last a long time.
Make sure you buy a decent charger for them too, fast chargers will ruin batteries, the bl700 from battery logic is excellent. Always charge them at the lowest current you can and they will last longer before you need to bin them.

My eneloops came in these too :P

Never tried eneloops just use 2700mah.

Never seen the thermal cut out work yet and I have an external battery pack connected too.

That's more related to how much light (thus heat) the flash is outputting, not the temperature of the batteries.

Regardless of what batteries you use, even if you're using an external power pack, enough full power flashes is gonna make you hit that temp warning. :)

Is that a model?

I Googled 'Eneloop Period' but with no joy :'(

But I did find this... http://www.batterycity.co.uk/2_x_sa....html?osCsid=2e1cb700aa64bc3f02db9a356ab58369 is that the ones you guys (Ryanboy esp.) use???

And is it just me or does the thermal cut-out on the SB900 suck :(

DD

Dave I dunno if you're being funny or not :D Anyway, it's just Eneloop ( I was being all "american" with the period thing )

Yes the SB-900 thermal cut off is a pain but since changing to Eneloop (period) I've had no problems.

I use Uniross Performance 2500 NiMH. In an SB600 they seem to last forever.

BTW the ones in your link are the ones :)

Cheers - and YES it was a joke - just a crap one obviously

My current ones are Energizer 2450nmh - they need a full charge the day before (if not of) a shoot and don't last as long as some Duracells I have as back-up. Hence of late I've just used alkaline batteries instead - hardly a big expense in the scheme of things at about £5 per Wedding, but if a more useful rechargeable is available then I'm all for it :)

Do it! You'll be glad you did :)

I appreciate that was just pointing out that I have not had a problem (yet) with the thermal cutout. :)

Well i have just ordered a set of these for myself and so will be able to give my verdict of these real soon.

Another vote for Eneloop..

Eneloop for mr every time. they only lose 10% of their charge over a year.

I don't know if I've ever owned a battery that's gone a year between uses. :)
