Best quality i-pod earphones for less than £20

I always thought the std Apple ones that come with the iPod were pretty damn good!

However i have NEVER found a pair of headphones that stayed comfy for more than 30 mins!

I've been there and done that, i've gone from Sony stuff ranging from £25 to £50 (in ear seal), to Etyomic stuff costing £80, and i also have Sennheiser open back full size headphones that retails for £300. I use standard Apple headphones, why?

Because any sound quality difference is lost when you are out, the train's engine, the traffic, the vibration when you are walking. If you get sealed headphones I have found myself missing annoucements on the trainstations, or people calling me, and you need to pay double attention with them on as you can't hear the cars. At least with the Apply phones you can still hear the outside noise.

Ah, that'll be low bit-rates then. In which case you could pretty much go for anything, but I'd recommend Sennheisers as a good starting point.

If you can stretch to £30 the CX400s are very good but the CX300s will be okay, providing you use the right EQ setting.

I quite liked the JVC HA-FX33 Marshmallow in-ear type which were under £15 IIRC.

They were a temporary set when my CX300's broke, and I then decided on some Denon AH-C551 (and Grado SR80 over-the-head style :) )

I seriously doubt anyone is selling CX400s for that price. You ought to check the eBay guides on fake Sennheisers.

They look real, but all the good fakes do, and there's no way of spotting the obvious mistakes in the packaging from an image that small. And equally there's no guarantee that what you're seeing is what you'll be getting.

But I can't see how anyone could get their hands on the volume of the headphones they seem to be able to and sell them at those prices. For one, they're selling them under the trade price.

The odd one or two here and there I can understand, but anything in that volume just screams fake to me. Let's hope you're lucky though.

Look on the bright side. At least you got your money back and you're more aware of the situation.

These or these would be a decent choice for your podcasts, and you'll be guaranteed to get the real thing.

I hope you'll be pleasantly surprised. They're cracking little earphones, especially with lower-bitrate digital music.

A lot of the people who dismiss Sennheisers as being poor have nearly always bought cheap replicas. I've found the CX300s, CX400s and the CX95s to be rather excellent.

Thanks for this thread Pete, it's answered the very question I've been asking for a week or so. Like you I was getting bogged down in the vast amount of options out there :)

The headphones arrived yesterday, what a difference! It has made me realise that the last set of Sony ear phones I bought from E-Bay were probably fakes too, I had no idea that fake head phones were so prevalent.

Thanks for the advice Glitch.
