Heading there this weekend, have seen some high up (looking across rather than up) shots of the castle and wondered if there is a specific place to go to. Unfortunately we wont be there at sunrise or sunset so slim pickings, but would still like to take a look, and maybe come back some time at an earlier or later time of day when I will then know where I need to head (a bit uncertain on my feet so clambering in the dark when I dont know the area is a bit unsafe!).

Many thanks.

PS Also doing the usual locales of Kimmeridge and Portland Bill, any tips would be very much appreciated.

I was there last Sunday.

Park in the National Trust car park - pay and display but good location. There is also a little layby on the left if you turn right just before the castle (if you are coming down the A351).

If you are after an across sort of shot, I'd turn right before the castle (unnamed road signed Kimmeridge) and drive along a bit, you'll find some fields on your left and a very nice view back to the castle. It did look good at dawn the other day, though I was up the hill.

Alternatively, you could go up the hill (cross the road at the NT car park and go through the gate, then go up the hill), but don't go up to far. Example below...

Check first but I don't think the train runs this time of year, you can shoot straight across too. @Tobers pretty much nailed it

Many thanks.
We are going to try and get there now for dawn.
I am wondering which would be the easiest locale for us to get to and walk of the ones you mentioned as we will be arriving in the dark.
Is it easy to get up that hill in the dark?
Many thanks.

No probs. Park at the NT car park. Cross the road and go through the obvious gate. Don't turn left along the path, instead go straight through the next gate, and walk straight up the hill.

Or, turn right onto the Kimmeridge road and park in the layby a couple of hundred yards on the left. Immediately opposite is a gate. Go through it and head up the hill slightly to the left (rather than forking right along the path).

Take a torch obviously.

Streetview will help you.

Its only 5 mins to the top of the hill.

There's a small car park just before you get to Corfe, from there you can trek up the opposing hill for this view.

are there any good locations shooting from the east side towards the west? looking to capture sunset around this area.

Yeah there's a hill to the west as well. Walk South along the road until you get to a turning on the left with a railway bridge over the road. Go under the bridge and there's a stile immediately on the left (where I've circled on the map), that'll take you all the way to the top of the hill. It's steep mind!

Also if you want to get a shot from further away there's a great view from near the Scott Arms in Kingston, 2 miles due south of Corfe on the B3069

you're a star - thanks. i saw that on Google maps but wasn't sure if it'd be any good. steepness is no problem. it's all exercise!

what's the object a the top of the hill in the square patch of field?

Exercise is the problem!

No idea what that square shape is... never noticed it when I've been up there before so I doubt it's anything too exciting lol.
