Hi Guys,
Just wondering who people use?

I'm concerned about cropping and potential colour issues. Any advice on these?

Never had a problem with photobox..........

reasonable prices and pretty good delivery (postal strikes permitting)

Uploaded an image to them about 10pm Wednesday to print 15"x12".

Arrived this morning.

Can't beat that.

Photobox have always been good for larger prints, I've found strange colour shifts with some of their smaller prints occasionally though. To be fair not for a while.

DSColour labs are also pretty good and very reasonable.

Ah that old can of worms ;)
I use Loxley who can't be beaten in terms of quality and customer service.
I always got really flat prints from photobox.

gadget show ran this last week, Snapfish came out best! If you are a Virgin media customer you get free prints off them, log in to your home page at Virgin and the link is on there.

The main thing about getting your print done are Understanding Colour management.
One you need to have a calibrated monitor
2 you need to have the right profile for the printer
3 make sure the printer DO NOT colour manage the file
You need to make sure you save it with the colour space of sRGB and embed the printer profile and if you have Photoshop you can proof it on screen as it will never look the same as your screen is light and a print is reflective light and is dependent on the colour of the light as well.
Hope this helps you

I've used snapfish for some time, initially just snaps from a P&S but more recently a few 10X8s from the DSLR. Prices are good, delivery is quick and never had any real issues with colour, etc.
There is a preview available for enlargements so you can tell how your photo is going to affected by cropping at each size.

I'm sure there are probably better quality printers out there but for the majority of requirements they offer great value for money.

Thanks for all the comments guys..

I'm interested in testing DSCL as they offer their printer profiles for download [which seems to be something all online printers should do in order to colour match prints].

Chaz,
I have a calibrated monitor [Huey] which is a good start.

So I need to download and install the DSCL printer profiles, then convert to sRGB in photoshop, when I save I also need to embed the printer profile.

Is there anything else I would need to do with the printer profile, and how do I proff in PS?

Thanks for all the help

Keynsham have profiles for each of the papers they use
To proof in PS go to View and proof setup and select your printer paper profile, it will then proof the screen to look something like the print will BUT remember you are looking at a Lit screen and not paper so you have to make some adjustment in your head for this

Wow, I'm shocked at how big a difference it makes:

Okay so I'm assuming people create two outputs, one for screen and one for print? Otherwise it would look terrible on at least one..

DS Colour labs have always been good and the quality ain't too bad either, but if I'm printing for paying customers then it has to be Loxley.

Dam, that will drive me nuts trying to get them to look the same on screen and in print.

For example I'm entering my first club comp next week and spent an age getting this image how I wanted it. If I look at the one on the left [screen profile] I'm happy with the output. The image to the right [printer profile] looks very dull and the WB looks off (or it has a cast).
