best macro lens for D7000

Hi guys, can you please advise me on whether I should buy Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro or the 105mm f/2.8G AF-S VR Micro NIKKOR.
I went trough lots of reviews and really cant make up my mind.

If you can afford it, get the Nikon version. It's a stunning lens for macro and a wonderful long portrait lens as well.

There's 3 macro lenses around 100mm that are brilliant, the 2 you mention and also the tamron 90mm.

I shortlisted to these 3, then had a look which i could find for the best deal second hand. Found a second hand sigma for a good price in a camera shop 10 miles from home, so it was an easy choice.

If your interest is only macro and you are not rich, i would say choose between the sigma and tamron. If you intend to use the lens for general use, the VR on the nikon will be useful to you, but it does cost...

I had the Nikon, it is amazing.

Mainly used for portraits as it was so sharp and fast but obviously ours great for macro as well!

thanks for your replies guys. Money is not an obstacle for me. I just want to buy the best and most practical lens. Reading the reviews on various websites, I thought I will go for the Sigma. I can get a new one for £529. It does have the OS (VR-on nikon). Reading your replies though, I think I will pop in into the shop and try them both. Will keep you posted

You may want to look at the 150mm sigma too... if they have one to try.

Gives you a bit more working distance to those insects...
