Hey, I am very new to Photography, but I live in Maidstone/Kent and I do not know many nice places to go and do Photography, if someone who knows a few places in Kent that are nice spots to take Photos then could you please let me know!

Thank you =)

PS: Sorry if I have posted this topic in the wrong part of the Forums, I literally only just signed up.

Not from the area but we did have a meet a few months back at the ruins of Reculver Abbey, that was a lovely spot a few of the members got some really cracking sunsets too prior to the night time fun starting :D

Oh! These forums do meet up?! I am noob at Photography but would love to join in, any idea when the next meet up is?

Welcome to the forum Conor.
I am from the Medway area, so not that far from you.
OK - places to photograph in Kent:

Leeds Castle - not just the castle but also the various events which take place during the year.
Faversham, Whitstable and Rochester - all are historic, and have festivals and the like.
Canterbury - loads of history.
WWF reserve near Smarden - I don't know much about this, but plenty of the people on the forum go there.
Various nauture reserves and parks - Riverside Country Park Rainham, Knole Park Sevenoaks, North Downs Way.
Chatham Historic Dockyard
Brands Hatch and Lydden Hill motor racing circuits.

I am sure that others can suggest alternatives/additions to the above.

Andy

I live in East Kent, and can also recommend Deal, Dover, Sandwich, Folkstone, Ramsgate, Broadstairs, in fact Kent has it all.

FWIW Leeds Castle has a public footpath running right by the moat :D

Take two steps beyond your gate, toss a coin (heads for left, tails for right).. there are no bad locations for photography, some are just more challenging to the way you look at the world than others ;)

I'm in kent mate, not too far from you. So far I've done deal and Dover. As you, I'm a complete newcomer to photography. :)

Depends what your into photographing.

Canterbury is probably the best bet. Part of the High Street still has "old" style buildings and then theirs the Cathedral. Hythe last time I was their still has some "character" on the high street and theirs a few places out near Hastings way that have reasonable non carbon copy high streets.

If your into taking pictures of unemployed and single chavs swilling red bull and screaming the top of their lungs at their vast nest of kids while picking up their Social Security cheques then take your pick  Most of the high Streets are brimming with them especially in the south east.

Theirs vast areas of Cost Line along the south which is a little barren and bare this time of year however makes for some nice photos. Theirs a little stretch of coastline down by Little Switzerland in Folkestone which is normally secluded enough for doing light painting with cliffs etc. Theirs also some Martello towers along the route. Folling the coastline up theirs (a) sandy beach in Folkestone and no end of pebble beaches going all the way up to Dungeness which offer up nice sea style shots.

Leeds, Walmer and of course Dover Castle offer up relatively good shoot locations.

I think you are definitely talking about Hastings here !
Unlikely to be Hythe, unless these chavs are in their 80's. And in Canterbury they'd just be tourists.

And Hastings is in East Sussex. Best avoided.

ok this saturday dungiinesss ,, who's coming ?

Would love to, but Saturdays are generally out for me. Try Scotney castle, Bewl Water as well. Happy to come to a meet at some point. There's the Dickens Xmas in Rochester on 7-8 December.

thats alright mate , got to earn the money while you can

Folkestone and Dover are definitely not excluded from Chav Haven. Hythe is relatively peaceful I guess. Most of the "riff raff" using that loosly hang around the canal however most of them are harmless.

Canterbury would be my first choice plenty of mixed subjects for photography.

To be fair (chavs aside) as long as you wear some head protection from the seagulls you can find nice parts in most or the towns. Just done forget your Kevlar Vest if your gear is worth a lot

Anywhere towards Gillingham way you need to watch your gear. Sit outside the train station at the weekend and watch the locals pour of of McDonalds for a real eye opener ;)
