Best lens for mma (cage fighting)?

no idea what camera you have.. what the lighting is like or how big the cage is.. no idea where your shooting from? over top or through wire?

personaly i prefer the 35mm prime.. but thats on a crop..

provide some more info and we might be able to help more :)

I don't know enough about MMA to make a single call, but it depends on how close in / far away you are and what area you want to cover. My best shot would be to go to http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/calc.htm and scroll down to the Angular Field of View Calculator, and work from there to choose your lens.

I'm shooting with a Nikon d90 it's quite a big event.il be shooting through the cage and over the top.
Lighting isn't the best but never is at these events!!thought I'd give it a shot!

Anythink 2.8......... I use a sigma 70-200 2.8 or a 100mm 2.8 is macro

this is the area im looking to start taking pics at, i have a Canon 7D and have been told to get a 70-200 2.8 and also a 85mm 1.8 to start with.

I would get soemhting shorter to start with... cages come in various sizes.. even 70mm can be too long and thats your shortest...on a 7d crop which i believe is more than most crops?

have a look at this set for example... all shot using a 35mm lens on a 1.3 crop...

Howvere if your going straight at the big boys cage at bigger events then yes a longer lens would be better :)
