Currently using a 7D and 100-400 is L lens, however was considering a 70 - 200 is mk 2. Would this be an improvement or would other primes be better such as 135 f2.
Just wondering if anyone had experience in comparing the three lenses.

Cheers

What is it you think needs improving from the 100-400 which is regarded as an excellent lens, maybe a bit on the heavy side for some.

I'd use the 100-400 for Junior Rugby, but the 70-200 for senior. I hope this helps.

Here are some images of senior rugby taken with a 7D/100-400L http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=312539

Perhaps the 70-200L might give slightly sharper images but surely missing out on 200mm of focal length would negate the argument for the increased IQ as you'd probably have to do quite a bit of cropping.

I suppose it also depends on how much often you're going to shoot junior rugby too? I know that a prime 300/400mm lens would probably get me better images but I'd probably only use it 10 times a year, whereas the 100-400L is more practical for my needs.
