hi there guys and girls

This is my first post on here.

I have been taking photos for a few years now and I bought a canon 400 D last year. I love this camera and I ran about with teh kit lens for a few weeks.

I then bought a Tameron 55-200 and a canon ultrasonic 25-105, both lenses are great for running about during the day and is average light conditions, The minimum aparture all of my lenses will do is f/3.5.

i have recently borrowed a fixed 50mm canon prime lens from my friend and it has an appature fo f/1.8

the fixed 50 mm lens is great for shots and can produce a great shot almost every time with a 800 Iso and 250th shutter.

However I want to use a zoom at gigs to get nice up close shots, but when I used my ultrasonic 28-105 even at 28mm the appature is f3.5 and can produce Ok ish shots but the light has to be just right, If I combine it with a flash I can get a perfect shot, but I would prefer not use the flash as it pales all the imges.

I have been looking at the Sigma 24-60 f/2.8 EX DG link here http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?/photo/lenstech/sigma/2460f28exdg.html

or the Sigma 24-70 EX DG Macro link here http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?/photo/lenstech/sigma/2470f28exdg_macro.html

Both are in my price range, but I am wondering what one is better and if these are the best lenses for what i want to shoot.

I can 9 times ot of 10 get right next to the stage wit my pass and I am planning to but a prime 50 mm f/1.8 lens for general use, but really want a low light zoom

Your views and suggestions are welcomed

cheers in advance

Mike

Today is as good a day as any to learn that the word is lens not lens.

Although I'll probably get told off for being mean or something.

lol yeah my spelling is shocking sorry :|

yeah i seen the £199 price, its very apealing that is why i asked about it.

not really fussed for the extra 10mm tbh cause I will only use it during low light conditions.

So do * think If I bought the 24-60 lens it would offer better pictures.

Or should I use my current lens and combine it with a remote flash positioned somewhere on the stage to throw extra light onto the scean

I do quite a lot of low light photography. I use either a 50mm f1.8 fairly wide open and a lower ISO, or a 24-105 IS f4, relying on the IS quite heavily but ISO high.

I'd like a 24-105 f2.8 but they don't exist.

lens is according to various dictionaries and acceptable spelling, but I prefer lens. It makes me cringe when I see lens.

Well that is where I was thinking a combination of the prime 50 mm f/1.8 and also the 24-60 f/2.8 will give me a good cover for low light level.

think I might opt for the sigma one and see how it goes, then possibily purchase the fixed 50 mm

The only problem I have found with the 3.5 kit lens or my ultrasonic lens at 28mm I have to boost the ISO up to around 1600 or in some shots I can get away with a ISO of 800. The shots end up grainey and look not as sharp as when I use the 50 mm lens.

Fair enough they can be cleaned up a bit in photoshop, but its better to get it correct the first time.

When I was at a gig last night one of the guys there was shooting with a Nikon, a big ass one,a nd he had a zoom lens and also 2 remote flash guns either side of the stage and he was able to real off great shots with every click.

I managed around 40 good shots from around 130.

a few are here, and are mainly taken with the 50mm prime canon lens
