Hi guys,

I know there are some big music fans on this board and some gig photographers so what is everyones highlight gig of 2009 been?

If I had to pick one I would say Regina Spektor a few weeks ago just blew me away.

After that Black Stone Cherry and The Prodigy.

For me it had to be Kasabian and Oasis at Heaton Park. Went on the Friday when the power failed twice. Not the first time I'd seen Oasis but probably the last.

Easy...any I've played :D

the ugly...

N-Dubz were predictably terrible.
calvin harris was just a club DJ who didn't know the crowd, and was lit by two, yes TWO led par cans. sucked. helloooo iso 3200...
alesha dixon was pretty lame, her 'famous' song she didn't do properly, she got some drunk randoms on stage with her and barely sung. And she didn't allow any photos whatsoever...but then one of her backup dancers took a camera off a randomer in the audience front row and took a photo of her with it :@
some geriatric DJ who was more efficient at clearing the room than security, can't even remember his name... danny rampling or something? apparently he 'created UK acidbeat' or something like that... can't say I was sold...

and the good...

'richard' >_> and dom were very cool, a random shoutout to 'the big lens man' was pretty cool...
Daniel Merriweather was ok and was nicely lit (no red backlighting here!), which makes me happy :)
stavros flatley were fun to shoot, and really nice guys too, very down to earth and genuine :) did grip and grin and interview shots with them, really friendly. Oh, and they weren't earning 200k a week...
florence and the machine were pretty good, but so badly lit I wasn't really concentrating on the music...
(link could be considered nsfw if you're paranoid) faces of disco were pretty cool too...
random local bands are always fun to shoot / film, and outdoor festivals that have to end at 7pm to stop the grumpy local resisdents writing to their MP's or whatever moody old cows do for fun, is kinda easy mode really...helloo iso 200, I forgot you existed!
ash were alright for generic indie rock, but nothing amazing really.
chase & status DJ set were good but in the hottest sweatiest club I've ever been in, I was working video and couldn't get a shot longer than 30s without the lens steaming up completely.
6 months and several major chart hits later, and chase & status live set was absolutely amazing. just...absolute win. packed venue too. moaning managment meant no pit for anyone other than security though. boo. monopod + tele lens time.

all this and I don't think I've been to a gig without AAA, cameras and earplugs all year...wow...I need a life >_<

I've only been too 2 gigs this year but both were great. The first band was Rise Against and then Dragonforce later on.

Haven't been too many this year, used to go to like 1 or 2 a month.

Pearl Jam in Vancouver - pretty cool gig.

I had tickets to see Aerosmith back in August, but Steve Tyler went and injured himself then they disbanded. Gutted I never got to see them.

Then Three Days Grace postponed their November show. Didn't have much luck with gigs this year :(

Gojira in March. Loved it :D

Cancer Bats was pretty mental

Clutch was a dissapointment!

Shadows Fall on the 2nd of this month was CRRAZY!

maximo park back in may (academy in newcastle) were pretty stonking. Possibly due to the home crowd. I'm not a die hard fan but the atmosphere was great.

No-one has mentioned Robbie Williams yet ....

maybe no one went to see him ;)

Don't remember which year it was (yeh, im useless) but Metallica Death Magnetic Tour at Newcastle Metro Radio Arena.

Awesome because they're my favourite band. Not soo good because the atmosphere was a bit lacking, as was the crowd, which astounded me!

Limp Bizkit at Download festival were awesome as well!!

Metallica in Manchester MEN Arena from Feb this year. Have now got the live CD from MetClub online so can relive the whole night over and over again. Cannot forget the heat from the flamers during the start of 'One'. Machine Head were supporting and they were incredible live.

Also AC/DC in April at the MEN Arena. Just awesome for a bunch of blokes who are not far off getting their pensions. Angus was outstanding again :notworthy:

Metal Licker at the O2 Death Magnetic launch party :D

Actually, thats the only gig I went to this year...

For me it had to be Kasabian and Oasis at Heaton Park. Went on the Friday when the power failed twice. Not the first time I'd seen Oasis but probably the last.

I was at that one - Kasabian didn't do that much for me, but Oasis were pretty good!

The good and bad lists for this years gigs:

Good

Pheonix - best gig I've been to ever, period!
Florence & The Machine - saw her twice, 2nd time was best, nice legs too!
Friendly Fires - absolutely awesome live!
Oasis @ Heaton Park - good when they finally got going
Chemical Brothers - strictly speaking a DJ set, but the place was bouncing!!

Bad

Glasvegas - good album, but awful live, nearly made my ears bleed (nearly)
White Lies - good album, but absolutely no stage presence
Arctic Monkeys - not suited to big arenas me thinks

Anybody who didn't get a mention was probably worse than the bad list, or I was too pished to remember them!! :D

Pretty much what I thought about Alice Cooper at Sheffield City Hall... 61 Years Old, Killed 4 times a night, and still dancing around because Schools Out...

No contest for me - Jools & his band in Thetford Forest. 4th time we've been to see them and never tire of them. These shots were taken on my Fuji S5700.

I've been to quite a few this year, but I'd have to say that, for me, The Specials were absolutely incredible at the Hammersmith Apollo last month.

2 for me this year.

Bruce Springsteen at the Giants Stadium,New York in September and Greenday at the MEN Arena in November.
