Thinking about the jump up to a 5D Mark II from my 40D. I use my UWA Tamron lens quite a lot, but almost all of the time at the 10mm end rather than anything else. What's the best equivalent lens I could replace this with? It's mostly tripod work so don't need a massively low F-stop lens. The 17-40mm F4 L might be stretching the budget a wee bit too much.

There's not a lot of choice, but 17-40L is a great lens at a decent price.

When I had Tamron 10-24 it worked on a full frame Nikon from around 15mm without severe vignetting. Could be worth a try until you can stretch to a dedicated FF lens.

If you can find one the Tamron 17-35 f2.8-? is quite good on FF and cheap but they are a bit difficult to find.

Oh really? I didn't think it would be able to work on the 5D. Well that's good news until the pennies build up in the camera fund again.

I don't know about Canon. Might be worth a quick Google to check.

Yeah, you can use it on a full frame. I had the same lens and used it on my 5d classic, think you may just about get away with 14mm before it starts vignetting too much.

Here is an image i took with the Tamron 10 - 24 on my 5d at 14mm

17-40L is a fantastic lens. well worth the investment if you can.

Sigma 12-24mm is also pretty good, best part is that it's quite a bit wider on full frame. in fact, I think it's the widest full frame rectilinear lens you can buy!

If you are on a budget and don't mind losing a little at the wide end the Canon 20-35 F2.8 L is an excellent lens that can be had for around £250 second hand. If you do buy one check it over properly as it is likely to be around 15+ years old but the quality of the glass and the build is first rate.

20mm = 12.5mm on an APS-C
