What the best firmware for 3G? I have not been upgrade for while, im stuck with 3.1.2 jailbreak and unlocked. Im thinking to upgrade to 3.1.3 or maybe 4.0.1 but i want to know which one is better and it dont slow my 3G.

Once i get it done then i wont bother upgrade it again until i get iphone 4 in few months tme.

Cheers :)

iOS 4 seems to slow down the iPhone 3G. So I'd stay with version 3, until you get the 4

Following the recent ruling in the states that jailbreaking does not contravene the DMCA, and consequently Apple's EULA, but it actually enables 'fair use' of a device you actually own, I decided to have a look at jailbreaking my own 3G 16gb

I am currently running IOS4.0.1 which in natural state was borderline unusably slow for me (100+ apps installed) however, and somewhat bizarrely, when opened up and with multitasking subsequently enabled, the phone speeded up and became useable once more?!?

I put iOS4 on my 3G and it drove me to ditch the iPhone for a Desire. Or at least gave me an excuse to get a new gadget, one of the two.

If the phone rang when it was locked, about 50% of the time, the phone wouldn't respond to the answer swipe until the call had gone to voicemail. Nearly drove me to smash the damn thing!

I have got iOS4 on my 3G 8Gb, it is slower than the 3.x version of the software. I also find that about once a week the phone gets so slow that I have to turn it off and on again to re-set it. That always makes it better, but is still not great.

Does anyone know if you can go back to the 3.x version?

You can find alot of old firmware....( on itunes shift + click on restore, search and select the 3.1.3 firmware....its may not work...in your own risk!)

Dont forget to save your SHSH blob before doing this!! "I am again repeating: This process is only for those who have already saved the ECIDs with SHSH to Cydia Server."

Since this isn't an iPhone forum and 3G was (and still is) used to refer to the WCDMA mobile network standard before Apple tried to take over the world, you can't be surprised at my confusion surely?

Not all of us are Steve Jobs fan boys you know...

Thanks Jayesh, I might give that a try this weekend. Warnings noted, I will back up as stated before I do anything to it!

I honestly can't remember what changed between them. Doubt that it was much though.
