hi everyone,im getting a duratran printed for a lightbox frame im buying(or maybe making depending on the price !),whats the best way of saving the file that im sending of to print? should I size in centimeters the same size as an A1 print? or should be sized/saved as a scaled down version of A1? I'm havent really understood how all this works,I dont want the printers to have to crop my image :/

Your final file size should be
imperial: 23.4 x 33.1 in @ 300 ppi.
metric: 594 x 841 mm @ 120 ppcm

Whichever, the printer will not crop any pixel from these dimensions.

One thing to think about if you are needing upsize to make the file those dimensions at the 300dpi resolution?

IMO PS and LR perhaps do not have for handle upsizing that well especially if the increase is large. Therefore a chat with the printer to discuss whether they can handle the upsizing in a manner more suited to the printer and its driver.

upsizing….

Right, didn't mention that!
My recommendation in this is Perfect Photo Resize from OnOne software…
was and still is industry standard.

Thanks for the pointer :) how does it compare to Genuine Fractals which I had read of in the past as "best".

When I had some giclee prints done there were a few that needed modest upsizing and the printing company appraised them and did a superb job including final sharpening suitable for the image and papers.

thank you,so I should chat with the printer,I wish I understood this better,my mind goes a little vague concerning this type of stuff.

That big a print doesn't need to be at 300dpi - I had a banner produced for a WF recently and my image was printed 100dpi and was AWESOME

Resize it to whatever size you need and if its 100dpi or more don't worry about it :)

Fair comment as the DPI of the print (any print) can/should be born in mind is the viewing distance. When I had Konica Minolta A2 I recall discussing this with an A1 owner who had a billboard sized poster created from its very modest sensor sized file.

Indeed, a large banner up there in the train station… 100 ppi is clear.
In a bus stop, at eye level, 300 ppi should do very well.
