I am looking at getting the website live soon enough.

I want seperate hosting and domain name as scary stories have come about when trying to move from an all in one host.

I am not looking for the cheapest but still reasonable. - preferably within GB so support is available over the phone.

thanks in advance,

Lee

I signed up for a .com domain with godaddy then signed up for hosting with streamline.net gave me the same domin but .co.uk domain for free..

To be honest I wish I hadn't bothered with the .com from go daddy and I wish i'd just done it all in one.

The terms in the streamline don't show any benefit to having a separate domain provider.

i think there have bneen issues if you wantd to cfr hosting they didnt release the domain name easily.

Taken from Streamline.net..

Domain Ownership:
You are the owner of your domain. If we register a domain for you then you retain full ownership of it and have the right to transfer it away at any time for no charge.

Streamline.net for me. I moved to them after having no end of problems with a US company.

Service has been excellent so far....

Cheers,

Neil

i use bluehost.com i have to say they are awesome! based in the USA, unlimited everything, pretty much! 99$ dollars i think for the year, i run about 30 sites from it with no problems at all

I've been using Dataflame for over 5 years now and the few times I've needed to talk to support they have been great and sorted me out (or told me what to shout at my ISP as the case usually was...)

Strange.. not even microsoft own there domains.... You rent them, not own them

picky I know.. but... :)

I presume they mean they register it with nominet on your behalf as opposed to registering it as their domain and then they have a hold on it.
But valid comment :D

True story.. I sold a domain (well a set of domains) to a championship football club... the co.uk domain only had a month left on it... the club didnt renew it .. So I got it for a fiver and I sold it to them again :) Made a lot of money :)

One thing I am finding with Streamline is that they run PHP in safe mode which is a pain and I cant install gallery2 onto it.

I use www.1and1.co.uk for my domains, and a mate for my hosting.

I can have a word with him if you like ,see what he can come up with for you. I think basic hosting starts at about £2 a month.

yeah please do. dont need it till end of next month probably as still working on the site.
just simple html/flash site with a few mailbox's at most

I've used 123-reg for domains for years and never had a problem with them for that. For hosting I use Hostgator and they've been great for me.

this might be good as a sticky in here since there have been theads about site building etc recently

Hi, if it helps, and within forum rules I host and register all of the websites I design. Small companies like me can now compete with the larger ones like fasthosts 1and1 etc as we offer the same service, but if there are ever any problems (not that I ever have had any) I have full access to the servers. So, you, as a customer don't have to jump through hoops ie techsupport at 0845 rates!

Big companies, you are just a number!
Small companies, we value your business!!
