best camera for what i need

Panasonic DMC Lumix FZ8. I just got one off ebay for £175. It looks similar to an SLR but the lens isn't detachable it has an 12 times optical zoom, thats equivalent to 432mm and has a 4x digital zoom on top of that. Not sure how it works yet as I haven't used it but if you lower the resolution of the pictures you take not only do you get more photos per memory card you also increase the optical zoom, plus you have the 4 x digital zoom on top of this again. The camera has manual as well as auto settings so it can be used similarly to a DSLR or you can just set it on the auto mode for whatever style of photos your taking. I've not used my camera yet only had it a week with no chance to get out with it yet but as it's an improvement on my previous DMC FZ5, I reckon it should be good. Plus which you should be able to focus through the fences with it too. I'll see if I can find a link for you for the seller I got mine from. Cheapest I could find.

Here you go. £150.00 plus postage.

This one is cheaper as it doesn't have a memory card included in the deal where as mine did. The card included with mine was non compatible with the camera however, (something I've yet to notify the seller about). I'd recommend searching ebay for a high speed 2GB card this will allow the photos to be written to the card quicker , very useful when using the multi shot burst mode. The seller does deals with other cards included but I don't think these will be high speed.
Camera comes from their UK warehouse and delivered in under a week.
That's my recommendation anyway.

To be honest I have a FZ8 and would steer you away from it for high speed stuff as anything much over iso 200 starts to get quite noisy, not that it isn't a great camera. I love mind but wouldn't use it for high speed sports. With £250 I would maybe go for the FZ50.

Been looking at the Canon powershot S5 recently..and its £285 at Amazon..compared to about £400 at jessops. Jessops never had any in when i went in earlier, and chances are i need to pay them to get one in just to try it..cheeky sods!

The canon looks great..do you reckon it will fall in price after christmas or before? With doing motorsports, we're heading into the off season now..and the next big events i want to go are next year (dtm, btcc, f3/gt, a1gp etc..).

:)
