Hi guy's as per title, who would you recommend? not fussed about price really just want good connection with no drop outs. I'am with Tiscali at present up till now service has been OK now starting to drop out all the time customer service is outsourced (India i think) there next to useless .had the line checked by BT all ok there, changed router still dropping connection so i suspect it's Tiscali's problem so i'm thinking of looking elsewhere who's the best ISP:shrug:

Many thanks Lee.

I've been with Virgin for the past few years and have no complaints so far.

The Utility Warehouse has a UK based membership call centre and will always have, according to their CEO.

Up to 24 meg (dependant on local exchange and conditions) plus Line Rental all for £19.99. And free calls at weekends. Other schemes to give you free global calls anytime.

I'm with BT Broadband. Never had a problem so i don't know what the help is like. When i 1st had it i moaned at them as they told me the BT router had 4 internet connections but it only had 2 and 2 USB It was difficult to find the right person but got it sorted in the end, i threw away the router!:D

But as said, in the 6 years i have been at this house i have never had a problem.

For a no dropout service you should go fiber optic, anything else will always be pants :)

which can also drop out. quality of service from telewest is what made me switch to adsl.

And there won't be much fibre optic in deepest Dorset ;)

Been with NTHell for 10+ years... never any problems.

The words "death" and "kiss" spring to mind.

I've been with Vispa for about 5 years now and their service is excellent, the only downtimes have been because of issues at the exchange etc. Customer service and tech support are in the UK and have always been very helpful, I admit they are not the cheapest but my work pays for it, even if they didn't I would stay with them.

Hope this helps.

I use Freedom 2 Surf, unlimited LLU Package. Never had an issue. Good Price, Static IP, and all the normal goodies.

I use Plus.net - been with them for years. When needed the customer service has been great! They even have a web camera in their service centre so you can watch them at work! They were that good BT bought them! So are not going to disappear overnight and are well underpinned.

However, for good impartial advice I suggest consulting Which magazine (Library or friend? or subscribe, it will save you money! ). Their 6 best buys are various packages from 2 providers - Zen and Be*

I'm with BT Broadband, not had a problem for years.
I'm still using the original Voyager 2110 router - it's got 4 ports. They have sent me an 'upgraded' router but that's only got two ports, I need three for printers and such. I believe the latest (curved) router which they are busy advertising has four ports.

If I felt the need to change I would investigate Zen, as stated previously, everyone seems to rate them.

Thanks guy's anyone with Virgin media i'm in a fibre optic available area and was thinking of going full package,TV,Broadband, and phone and getting rid of Sky HD as it seems to go up every few months

Yep... NTL taken over by VM recently.

I find them excellent; have the full package with them. 20MB Broadband, phone, Virgin+ TV, two further TV points... excellent service.

By by sky..

I have worked for a number of ISPS and have had experience with support for a lot of them as well.

ATM I am on sky at home as its cheap with the Telly package. The BB is fine but when things have gone wrong its been a nightmare to get their support to do anything.

I have spent the majority of the last 4 years working for Zen internet and If I was recomending bb to someone who didnt mind paying I would tell them Zen hands down. I have seen the way other ISP`s work(I spent 6 months working for talktalkBusines) and it scares me how little they put into customer service and support.

With Zen you`ll get the best tech support Which is all uk based(Rochdale to be precise) out there and an amazing network. You will pay a premium though.

A good option which is cheaper is BE broadband Think their support is belgian based but *** I know with them say they know what they are on about which with the majority of ISPs you dont get.

I think Virgin are tough to beat if a few quid here or there doesn't matter.
I started with Telewest when they laid the fibre optics is my street, although the service from what is now Virgin is carp and I hate them, it doesn't need to be any good because nothing ever goes wrong.
Its not exactly as advertised but its still fast & reliable, I've been waiting for the first drop out for five years.

I agree.

I recently rang them up as I was considering moving the TV supply from Sky to Virgin. I asked them if they'd give me any offer to move to them supplying TV to me on V+. I said I didn't wish to negotiate, and would prefer if they'd give me their best deal. 10 seconds later, the lady on the phone said right Mr Burns... how does 10p sound to you...?

Yep, apart from the cost of the V+ box, I have been upgraded to V+ for an additional 10p per month! How's that eh!

Virgin 20mb solid as a rock, would never go back to ADSL, i get the speed advertised none of this 'up to' speed

I can recommend Zen. Pricey but excellent service.

seconded, I left them as I wasn't using it enough to justify the price, if money isn't a factor you won't get better than zen.co.uk

Have you got a mobile contract? The mobile networks usually do good deals for the subscribers. I'm with O2 and the broadband service has been excellent...

If you can get Cable in your area I would go for that. Like other I have been with NTL/Virgin for years with no real problem, just as well really their customer service is patchy at best but the connection is stable. And no download limits either.

You will find very little HD on Virgin, just the BBC channel and a few on demand films. There are a few free HD programs in the On Demand section but these have hardly changed since they first started.

My recomendation - Stay with Sky.

The only reason I am srill with Virgin, is that we live in a dip with large trees in front of the house and even with a dish on the chimney, we still can't get a decent picture on Sky, or any of the normal channels, so the only way we can watch telly is through cable.

With regard to Broadband, I've been with O2 for over 2 years now without a single problem, plus if you have a mobile contract with them, the 20Mb package is only £15.
