Yes
I've searched the forum and POTN, but can't seem to find the definitive answer.

Can somebody please advise me on the best batteries to use for my 430 EX II flash.

Are rechargable the best, if so, which?

Thanks
Mike

I have the same flash, and Sanyo Eneloops have been fine for me. Rechargeables are definitely the way to go if you shoot a lot of flash, and I'd get the low discharge type. Lithiums hold charge well and will do for occaisonal use, but can't be recharged and get expensive quickly.

Sanyo Eneloops or the Uniross versions are both great batteries!

I use Ansmann MaxE low self-discharge NiMH batteries in my 430EX and 580EX II.

Excellent batteries and far cheaper / less wasteful than disposibles ;)

Another big :thumbs: for Sanyo Eneloop. Got mine from 7dayshop. They are excellent batteries. Really quick on recharge times with my 430 EXII. I wouldn't use anything else.

Thanks for all the replies - you've just saved me a fortune on normal batteries.

I'll get some Sanyo's ordered tonight.

Extreme “Ready To Use”
GP ReCyko
Panasonic Infinium
Sanyo Eneloop
Uniross Hybrio
Vapextech Instant.

All the same thing "Low Self Discharge AA Batteries"

Personally I use 7dayshop own brand rechargeable as I can't see the point of the low self discharge ones, if your worried about the batteries losing charge by themself over the next 6-12 months then your not using your flash enough.

Does the charger matter too? I.E are the cheap ones at 7dayshop good or is it worth buying a more expensive branded one?

I don't know. I've read criticism about fast chargers, and recommendations for the sophisticated chargers that check/discharge/condition and recharge each cell individually, but I've never tried one. All my batteries have been recharged in whatever cheap/free unit came with them and I haven't had any problems.

Does it really matter, or only if you're shooting and recharging a lot? I reckon I can buy a lot of batteries for the price of one of these units, so I don't particularly care if I'm shortening their life span.

Cheap do not mean bad I have one of their computer type all singing and dancing will check the batter will charge all types can discharge if needed, it’s great charger.

I think generally chargers that charge the batteries slower e.g over night chargers, will result in longer battery life due to them not cooking the batteries as much.

OK, good advice, I'll just buy a cheap charger... Like you've said, batteries are dirt cheap anyway....

I've used 2800mAh rechargeables in my 430 for a while, but they don't recycle the flash in the same time as a duracell ultra AA's. I get alot more flashes too.

and the ansmann energy8 / energy 16 chargers - they look after your batteries nicely
