What sort of things are you going to use it for and what kind of budget? If you can run to one of the eizo colouredge monitors that would get a great combination with your apple screen due to their colour management, but if its more for just putting photoshop panels on it like I use my 2nd screen for then you can get away with paying a lot less

If you can live with 2k as opposed to 4k then Eixo CG 2730 is the best bet if you can stand the £1400 price. Beautiful colours and accuracy. Their 4k 32" version is over 4 grand if you have money to burn.
For a lower price I'd look at the Benq range, still good but according to internet experts the quality control isn't as good as the Eizo range, but they do still get really good reviews.
All depends on how important you view the colour management side of things and the resolution you require. Some of the Dell Ultrasharp screens can be excellent once set up and maintained correctly

These I believe use LG panels, which can be also obtained from LG, Acer and others and should not be overlooked. HP is another one well worth looking into and will likely match Eizo, and it's price tag for the top models.

I have two screens at work. They are slightly different and it bugs the hell out of me! They are different resolution and moving from screen to screen means the cursor jumps up a bit higher than I’m expecting it to.
If going with two screens I’d have to get two of the same screens. This is something iMac’s are at a disadvantage with. They don’t do a perfect second screen that duplicates the iMac screens. If I was thinking of two screens and staying with Apple I’d say the Mac mini is more suited as you can purchase two identical screens.
Do you have an iPad? There is an app coalled diet that basically let the iPad become s second screen. If you have the larger 12 inch iPad it’s probably more useful but I guess it depends what you want the second screen for.
