I did buy an arca swiss 3 way head (cheaper make) which was ideal at the time. since upgrading camera the extra weight (and wear on the pan) means panning is no longer smooth. I bought a gimble for use with the 150-600mm zoom.
I have found that most of the Arca Swiss heads are designed for a front to back plate whereas it is normal to fit the plate to the camera side to side. The new style Benro heads are designed (sensibly) with side to side clamp (main tilt) but can be used front to back if needed by using the top (head side to side, portrait adjuster. Best of both worlds) by using the top control. It is the same design without the gearing for the WD3A head.
I am really tempted by the geared version I have seen reviews where the say "it has to be HELD OPEN to pan" but not sure I understand what they mean, do you?
